Sunday afternoon at Ford Field featured an interconference matchup between the Arlington Renegades and Michigan Panthers. This was the first meeting of all time between the two teams. Arlington, was the only winless team in the UFL, and currently sat in last place in the XFL Conference, while Michigan stood at second place in the USFL Conference. This was the only time the Renegades and Panthers would face off during the 2024 UFL regular season.

Jonathan Garibay kicked off 69 yards for the Arlington Renegades and the Panther’s Nate McCrary returned the ball to the Michigan 30-yards line.

Michigan quarterback Danny Etling threw a 7-yard pass to Siaosi Mariner, and then handed to Matthew Colburn for a 2-yard run. On third and short, Etling ran for 1 yard to move the chains. An Etling pass to Marcus Simms was good for a 9-yard gain, and then another rush by Etling made 3 yards and another first down.

Etling unleashed a 39-yard pass to Simms to take the ball to the Arlington 9, and then passed short to Mariner who took it in for the Michigan touchdown. The one-point conversion was good on a 2-yard rush by Wes Hills, to make the score 7-0 for Michigan.

The Jake Bates kickoff went 76 yards and was returned by Juwan Manigo to the Arlington 39. A 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty against Michigan was tacked on. Arlington Renegades quarterback Luis Perez handed to De’Veon Smith for a 7-yard run, and then threw an incomplete pass. On third and 3, Perez passed to Tyler Vaughns for 5 yards and a first down.

Perez completed a 4-yard pass to Smith, and then passed 9 yards to Sal Cannella to move the markers to the Michigan 22. A handoff to Smith made 1 yard, and then Perez could not complete a pass intended for Smith. On third down, another Perez pass went incomplete, and the Renegades settled for a 39-yard Garibay field goal to make the score 7-3 for Michigan.

The Garibay kickoff was returned by McCrary to the Michigan 32. Etling handed to Hills for a 3-yard run, and then a pass intended for Simms was dropped. On third and 7, Mariner made a diving grab to make the catch at the first down marker. A pass to Samson Nacua was good for 9 yards, and then Etling handed to Colburn for 7 yards and another first down at the Arlington 42.

Etling handed to Colburn for a loss of 2 yards, and then passed to Colburn for 5 yards. On third and 8, a rush by Colburn only made 2 yards and the Panthers setup for a field goal. Jake Bates kicked a 55-yard field goal, but an Arlington offside penalty gave the Panthers a first down, and the field goal was negated as Michigan’s drive continued.

Etling handed to Hills for 3 yards, and then could not complete a pass to Cole Hikutini. On third down, a pass to Hills only made 4-yards, and the Panthers settled for a 43-yard Bates field goal to make the score 10-7 for Michigan.

Manigo returned the Bates kickoff to the Arlington 40-yard line. A false start penalty set the Renegades back 5 yards, and then Perez passed 5 yards to Deontay Burnett as the first quarter ended.

Lyndsey Scott came in at quarterback and rushed 4 yards. On third and 6, Perez could not connect a pass, but a defensive pass interference penalty gave the Renegades a first down.

A pass intended for Cannella was batted away at the last minute, and then Perez was sacked for a 1-yard loss. On third and 11, Perez passed deep to Payton, but he could not make the catch. The Renegades were forced to punt.

The Marquette King punt when 40 yards and was returned by Trey Quinn to the Michigan 13. Etling handed to Hills for only 1 yard, and then passed to Simms for an 8-yard gain. On third and 1, a handoff to Hills lost 2 yards, and the Panthers punted.

Brock Miller punted 53 yards and Manigo returned the ball to the Arlington 20. Perez handed to Dae Dae Hunter for a 4-yard gain, and then handed again to Hunter for 7 yards and a first down. A pass intended for Payton was incomplete, and then another handoff to Hunter gained 3 yards. On third and 7, a 12-yard pass to Vaughns moved the markers to the Michigan 42.

Perez passed 8 yards to Cannella, and then handed to Smith for a 5-yard run and another first down. Under pressure, Perez passed 5 yards to Seth Green, and then passed again to Green for another 8 yards. An offensive holding penalty negated the gain. On second and 14, a handoff to Manigo gained 10 yards, and then Perez passed to Hunter for a 6-yard catch and a first down on the Michigan 17.

Lyndsey Scott kept the ball and rushed for 5 yards, and then Scott pitched the ball to Dae Dae Hunter for an Arlington touchdown. The two-point conversion was good on a pass to Burnett, making the score 11-10 for Arlington. Unfortunately, Hunter hurt his knee on the touchdown celebration.

The Garibay kickoff was returned by McCrary to the 41, but two penalties against the receiving team put the ball back on the Michigan 21. Etling could not find a receiver and ran out of bounds for a gain of 5 yards, and then scrambled again, this time for 4 yards. On third and 1, Colburn rushed 6 yards to move the chains. Etling was sacked for a 5-yard loss as the two-minute warning was announced.

Etling could not complete a pass to Hikutini, and then a deep pass to Trey Quinn went over his head. Michigan was forced to punt.

Manigo returned the punt to the Arlington 30. With 1:36 remaining, Perez handed to Smith for a 6-yard run, and then passed to Payton for a 7-yard gain and a first down. Another handoff to Smith gained 5 yards to the midfield stripe, and then Perez passed incomplete as he was sandwiched by two defenders. On third and 5, Perez passed deep off his back foot and the ball was caught by Payton on the Michigan 19.

Another pass to Payton fell incomplete, and then Perez passed to Canella in the end zone. An offensive pass interference penalty negated the touchdown. Arlington head coach Bob Stoops threw a challenge flag and the penalty was overturned, confirming an Arlington touchdown. On the one-point conversion, Lyndsey Scott was sacked. The score was now 17-10 for Arlington.

McCrary returned the Garibay kickoff to the Michigan 35. With 0:22 remaining, Etling’s first pass was incomplete, and then he passed to Quinn for a 16-yard gain to the Arlington 49.  A pass intended for Mariner was incomplete, and then a handoff to Colburn gained 7 yards. With 0:02 remaining, Jake Bates attempted a 60-yard field goal, and was good, to make the score 17-13 at halftime.

The second half began with Manigo returning the Bates kickoff to the Arlington 40. Perez handed to Smith for a 1-yard gain, and then a pass intended for Isaiah Winstead was thrown short. On third down, Perez completed a 4-yard pass to Cannella, but it was well short of the first down marker. The Renegades were forced to punt.

Devin Gray returned the King punt to the Michigan 19. Etling passed deep 20 yards to Gunnar Oakes, and then handed to Colburn for a 1-yard loss. Michigan took a false start penalty, and then Etling could not complete a pass to Colburn. On third and 16, Etling completed a 21-yard pass to Mariner to move the markers to the Arlington 45.

An Etling pass to the sideline was intercepted, but a defensive pass interference call negated the play and gave Michigan a first down at the Arlington 30. Etling handed to Wes Hills for a 3-yard run, and then went back to Hills for 4 yards more. On third and 3, a pass to Hikutini was incomplete, but another Arlington defensive pass interference penalty gave Michigan a first down on the Arlington 17.

Etling handed to Hills for a 1-yard loss, and then could not connect a pass to Devon Gray. On third and 11, Etling was sacked for an 8-yard loss. A 37-yard Bates field goal was good, but Arlington was penalized for roughing the kicker giving Michigan a first down.

From the Arlington 11-yard line, Etling handed to Hills for a 1-yard run, and then a pass intended for Mariner in the end zone sailed long. On third and 9, Etling was pressured and could not get a pass to a wide-open Wes Hills. Jake Bates kicked a 29-yard field goal to make the score 17-16 for Arlington.

The Bates kickoff was returned by Manigo to the Arlington 32-yard line. Perez handed to Smith for a 9-yard run, and then passed to Smith for 2 yards more and a first down. Another pass to Smith was complete, and then Perez passed to Green for 7 yards. Then, a 7-yard pass to Burnett moved the chains.

Perez passed incomplete, intended for Payton, and then passed to Vaughns for a 6-yard gain. On third down, a 5-yard pass to Vaughns moved the markers to the Michigan 30 as the third quarter ended.

Perez passed to Burnett, who dropped the pass, and then Lyndsey Scott came in and rushed for 1 yard. On third and 9, Michigan drew a 5-yard neutral zone infraction. Now on third and 4, a pass to Cannella was not caught, but a defensive pass interference penalty gave Arlington a first down on the Michigan 14.

Perez flipped the ball to Javonte Payton on the reverse, and he ran around to the left for a touchdown. The one-point conversion was good on a 2-yard run by De’Veon Smith, making the score 24-16 for Arlington.

The Garibay kickoff was returned by McCrary to the Michigan 39. Etling was sacked for a 7-yard loss, and then passed to Hills for a 10-yard gain. An 11-yard pass to Simms moved the markers. Etling passed 18-yards to Nacua on the Arlington 29, and then an offensive holding call gave Michigan a 10-yard penalty.

Etling tried to rush and was tackled for no gain, and then a pass to Simms slipped through his hands. On third and 20, Etling passed to Quinn on the Arlington 31, but not enough for a first down. Jake Bates kicked a 49-yard field goal to make the score 24-19 for Arlington.

Manigo returned the Bates kickoff to the Arlington 37. Perez handed to Smith for a 5-yard run, and then handed again to Smith for 1 yard more. On third and 4, Burnett caught a pass that was 18 inches short of the first down marker. On fourth down, a handoff to De’Veon Smith was stopped short, turning the ball over on downs.

From the Arlington 46, Danny Etling faked a handoff and ran right for a 40-yard gain. A handoff to Colburn gained 2 yards, and then a run by Hills was marked down at the 1-yard line. Upon review, Michigan was awarded a touchdown. The two-point conversion failed, making the score 25-24 for Michigan.

The Bates kickoff was returned by Manigo to the Arlington 27. Perez passed to Cannella for a 5-yard gain, and then a draw play to Smith was good for a 9-yard gain and a first down. Michigan was called for a neutral zone infraction, and then an 8-yard run by Smith moved the markers to the Michigan 46.

Perez passed 7 yards to Cannella as the two-minute warning was announced.

A handoff to Smith lost a yard, and then on third and 3, a 5-yard pass to Burnett moved the chains to the Michigan 33. A handoff to Smith gained 1 yard, but he fumbled with Michigan recovering the ball. Upon review, it was determined Arlington had actually recovered the ball.

With 1:08 remaining, Perez passed incomplete to Payton, and then he handed to Smith for a 3-yard rush. Jonathan Garibay kicked a 48-yard field goal to make the score 27-25 for Arlington.

The Garibay kickoff was returned by Marcus Simms to the Arlington 46. A face masking penalty against Arlington tacked on 15 yards to put the ball on the Arlington 31. Etling rushed for 2 yards, and with 2 seconds to go, Jake Bates kicked a 42-yard field goal to win the game.

The final score was Michigan Panthers 28, Arlington Renegades 27.
