XFL versus USFL

As reported via various sources, and then confirmed via statements issued by both leagues.

“We are pleased to have completed the antitrust review process in connection with the proposed merger of the XFL and USFL and intend to play a combined season this spring kicking off on Saturday, March 30. We are now finalizing terms of the definitive agreement and will share more about this new league in the coming weeks,” the leagues said in a statement provided to Sportico.

The antitrust review process is required under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission reviews proposed mergers and other transactions that are valued at more than $111 million to determine if the combined entity would substantially lessen competition in a particular market.

Although the leagues have said they plan to play a combined season beginning on Saturday, March 30, they had not yet released a roster of teams that will play in the new season.
