The D.C. Defenders hosted the San Antonio Brahmas in their week six game at Audi Field. Both teams are competing for a spot in the XFL conference playoff game, and a win today would go a long way toward confirming a spot in that game.
D.C. Defenders’ Paxton Brooks kicked off 70 yards and Marquez Stevenson returned the ball to the San Antonio 39. San Antonio quarterback Quentin Dormady handed to John Lovett for 6 yards, and then passed deep, but was intercepted by Anthoula Kelly, who returned the ball to the San Antonio 40.
D.C. Defenders quarterback Jordan Ta’amu passed incomplete, and then handed to Keke Coutee for a 2-yard run. On third down, Ta’amu was sacked for a short loss, and the Defenders attempted a 56-yard Matthew McCrane field goal, which missed.
Starting on his own 46-yard line, Dormady passed 3 yards to Cody Latimer, and then passed again to Latimer for 9 yards more and a first down. Dormady handed to John Lovett for a 14-yard run, and then went back to Lovett for 12 yards more. Another handoff to Lovett moved the ball 11 yards to the D.C. 5 yard-line.
Dormady handed to Ellison for a loss of 3 yards, and then passed incomplete, intended for Lovett. A pass to Justin Smith gained 2 yards and then, on fourth and 1, a handoff to Lovett lost 4 yards, with the Brahmas turning over the ball on downs.
From his own 5-yard line, Ta’amu handed to Zaquandre White for no gain, and then handed again to White for a 4-yard run. On third down Ta’amu passed incomplete and the Defenders were forced to punt.
The punt was returned to the D.C. 41 yard line. Dormady handed to Lovett for no gain, and then passed to Lovett but lost a yard. On third and 11, Dormady could not connect a pass to Jontre Kirklin, and the Brahmas were forced to punt.
The Brad Wing punt was downed on the D.C. 5-yard line. Ta’amu handed to Cam’Ron Harris for a 4-yard run, and then passed to Ty Scott for a 22-yard gain. A Ta’amu rush made one yard, and then a pass to Ellis gained 11 yards. A too many men penalty against San Antonio gave the Defenders 5 yards more.
On the San Antonio 40, Harris rushed for 9 yards and a first down as the first quarter ended.
On first down, a backwards pass from Ta’amu was dropped, with the ball remaining live. The Brahmas’ A.J. Hendy recovered the ball and returned it to the D.C. 32. Dormady passed to Stevenson for a 3-yard loss, and then could not connect a pass to Kirklin. A 10-yard John Lovett rush was short of the first down, and San Antonio settled for a 43- yard Ryan Santoso field goal to make the score 3-0 for San Antonio.
The Santoso kickoff was returned to the D.C. 38 by Chris Rowland. Ta’amu handed to Darius Hagans for a 4-yard run, and then passed incomplete to Brandon Smith. On third and 6, Harris ran, but was stopped for a 4-yard loss. The Defenders had to punt.
After a penalty the Paxton Brooks punt had to be re-kicked, and Marquez Stevenson returned the ball to the Brahmas 17-yard line. Dormady handed to Lovett for a 13-yard gain, and then scrambled up the middle for 18 yards. A pass to Kirklin was too high and could not be caught, and then a handoff to Lovett made for 5 yards. On third and 5, Dormady ran for the first down marker and he was 22 inches short of the first down. San Antonio opted to punt and the ball was marked down at the D.C. 1-yard line.
A handoff to Harris was stopped after no gain, and then Ta’amu passed 17 yards to Kelvin Harmon for a first down. A Zaquandre White rush gained 5 yards, and then a Hagans handoff picked up 17 yards. Another handoff to Hagans gained 6-yards, and then Ta’amu went back to Hagans for 12 more yards to the San Antonio 42.
A handoff to Harris gained 4 yards, and then Ta’amu passed to Harmon for a 13-yard catch and a first down. On first down, a pass to Harmon gained zero yards, and then a Hagans handoff resulted in a loss of 5 yards as the two-minute warning was announced.

The Defenders were forced to punt.
The Brooks punt went into the end zone for a touchback, giving San Antonio the ball on their own 25-yard line. Dormady handed to Lovett for a 2-yard rush, and then passed incomplete twice. The Brahmas went three-and-out and had to punt.
The Brad Wing punt was returned by Rowland to the D.C. 44-yard line. Ta’amu handed to Hagans for a 9-yard run, and then went back to Hagans for 9 yards more. A false start penalty set the Brahmas back 5 yards, and then a handoff to Lovett gained 30 yards to the D.C. 21. Dormady handed to Ellison for a 1-yard gain, and then handed to Lovett for 5 yards more. A 7-yard pass to Latimer was good for a first down on the D.C. 8.

Another run by Ellison gained 8 yards and another first down.
On first down, a handoff to Ellison gained 4 yards, and then Dormady handed to Lovett for a 3-yard run. On third and 3, a handoff to Lovett only gained a yard, and the Brahmas settled for a Santoso 40-yard field goal to tie the score 12-11.
The Defenders’ Chris Rowland returned the Santoso kickoff all the way for a touchdown, but a review showed he stepped out of bounds at the San Antonio 38-yard line.
A deep pass to Harmon was caught for a 26-yard gain to the San Antonio 12-yard line, and then a handoff to Hagans gained one yard. A completed pass to Harmon in the end zone was called back for offensive pass interference. Ta’amu handed to Hagans but he was dropped for a 3-yard loss, and then on third and 11, Ta’amu passed 13 yards to Kelvin Harmon for a Defenders touchdown. The punt was taken by Stevenson who returned the ball to the San Antonio 21-yard line with 0:19 remaining. The Brahmas attempted a razzle-dazzle play, passing the ball twice, and then passing back back to Dormady, but he was hit and fumbled the ball. San Antonio recovered the fumble and was able to run out the clock.
