This was the DC Defenders game to lose, as they outpaced the Orlando Guardians in all statistical categories. However, the Guardians were hungry, and had a chance to prepare themselves with the knowledge Quinten Dormady would be their starting pivot this week. Perhaps a little consistency in their roster will give them what they need to be competitive in this week 7 matchup.

The DC Defenders led off the game with a 74-yard, 5-play drive that ended with a Lucky Jackson touchdown and a 2-point conversion to give DC the lead over the Guardians 8-0.

The Guardians responded with a 6-play 45-yard drive that ended with a Quinten Dormady 1-yard rush for a touchdown. Quinton Flowers came in for a 1-point conversion attempt that failed.  The Guardians trailed the Defenders 8-6.

After a kickoff, DC took the ball on their own 15-yard line. Ta’amu could not get a drive going and went three and out. The Defenders punted back to the Guardians.

Orlando’s Quinten Dormady started a drive on his own 42 and made quick work of it, passing to Charleston Rambo for a 17-yard gain, and then to Cannon for an amazing 41-yard touchdown catch. The 1-point conversion failed, and the Guardians went ahead 12-8.

Jordan Ta’amu responded with an 11-play 69-yard drive that ended with Abram Smith running for a 1-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed making the score 14-12 for DC.

On the kickoff return the Guardians attempted to reverse the ball but the Defenders stuffed the return.

At the end of the 1st quarter the Defenders led the Guardians 14-12.

The Orlando Guardians went three and out and punted back to the Defenders. DC built a 9 play, 48-yard drive that ended with D’Eric King connecting to Moore-Mckinney for a 12-yard touchdown at the back of the end zone. The play was reviewed, and it showed Moore Mckinney had a toe inbounds, and the catch was valid. The 2-point conversion pass to Ellis was good to make the score 22-12 for DC.

Dormady started a drive on the Orlando 21. On 3rd down, Dormady passed to Cody Latimer for 9-yards and a 1st down. Dormady continued to drive the ball to the DC 39 where Darrington was stuffed for a 5-yard loss on 3rd down. The Guardians were forced to punt the ball.

Ta’amu started on the DC 28-yard line. Abram Smith ran up the middle for a 16-yard gain. The drive soon stalled and the Defenders punted.

Dormady started a drive on the Orlando 45-yard line. Dormady rushed for 12-yards to move the chains, but was later sacked for a 9-yard loss. At the two minute warning the Guardians were 2nd and 19 at the DC 43.

Quinten Dormady was sacked at midfield and fumbled. The ball was recovered by Orlando’s Darrington. On 3rd and 19, Dormady passed to Charleston Rambo for a 31-yard gain to the DC 12. A holding penalty brought the Guardians back 10 yards. Dormady passed incomplete to Latimer in the end zone but a defensive pass interference call put the ball on the 1-yard line. Confusion caused Orlando’s Darrington to lose 8 yards, and then a pass to Smith for 7 yards put the ball on the DC 2. With 3 seconds remaining on the clock, Quinten Dormady ran the ball in for a Guardians touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt failed.

At half time, the score was DC 22, Orlando 18.

In the 2nd half, Orlando received the kickoff and Thomas returned the ball 46-yards to the DC 46. An 11-yard rush by Darrington moved the chains. A 10-yard pass to Latimer put the ball on the DC 16. DC’s defense stiffened and Dormady faced 3rd and 9 on the DC 15. An amazing catch by Thomas in the end zone was good for a major.  The 1-point conversion run by Martin was good to make the score 25-22 for Orlando.

Jordan Ta’amu started a drive on the DC 15. He was sacked for a 4-yard loss, and then threw down field to Chris Blair for an 86-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed, and the score was now 28-25 for DC.

After Orlando’s Thomas returned the ball 38 yards, Quinten Dormady started his drive on the Orlando 40. On 2nd and 8, Darrington rushed for 9 yards to move the sticks. Dormady then connected to Darrington for a 16-yard pass to the DC 36. Martin rushed 19-yards to the DC 14, and then Dormady passed 11-yards to Thomas at the DC 3. Dormady passed into the end zone but DC was called for defensive pass interference and the ball was placed on the 1-yard line. On 2nd down Dormady was able to rush for the Orlando touchdown. The 1-point conversion attempt failed, and the score was now 31-28 for the Guardians.

DC started a drive on their own 41. Ta’amu passed to Chris Blair for a 12-yard gain and rushed the ball himself to the Orlando 34. He passed again to Chris Blair for a 13-yard gain and handed to Smith who rushed the ball to the Orlando 11. Orlando’s defense came up big and stopped DC’s progress.

At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 31-28 for Orlando.

DC attempted a 29-yard Matt McCrane field goal that was pulled wide left.

Orlando took the ball on their own 20. Martin rushed 19-yards to the 39-yard line and Cody Latimer caught a pass on the 47. A pass to Eli Rogers was caught and fumbled. It was recovered by DC’s Wallace at midfield.

Ta’amu passed to Hammond for a 20-yard pickup, and then handed to Smith for a 7-yard run to the Orlando 23. Ta’amu passed to Ellis for another 8 yards, and then passed to Lucky Jackson in the end zone for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion pass to Ellis was good, making the score 36-31 for DC.

Due to a touchback, Quinten Dormady started the Guardian’s drive on their own 35. On 3rd down Dormady threw a 15-yard pass to Williams to extend the drive. After a 6-yard pass to Eli Rogers, Dormady threw short to Cody Latimer who ran the rest of the way for a 44-yard touchdown.  The play was challenged and it stood. The 2-point conversion failed and the score was now 37-36 for Orlando.

Ta’amu started on the DC 22. An Abram Smith 11-yard run moved the chains once, but DC could not go any further and were forced to punt.

With a touchback, Orlando started their drive on their own 35. Penalties pushed them back to their 25, and then Dormady was able to connect to Williams for a 16 yard gain, and a personal foul penalty was tacked on to give Orlando the ball at midfield. A 12-yard pass to Williams was caught and fumbled. The Defenders recovered the ball on the DC 38.

Ta’amu passed 16-yards to Brandon Smith at the Orlando 42. Abram Smith carried the ball 10-yards to the Orlando 23 but fumbled. The ball was recovered by Orlando’s Gerald Willis.

Dormady started a drive on his own 23-yard line. On 3rd and 6 he passed to Cody Latimer for 8-yards and a fresh set of downs. Orlando let the clock run down to the two-minute warning.

On 3rd and 4 Dormady was sacked for a 3-yard loss. With 30 seconds remaining, Orlando punted the ball to the Defenders.

After the Guardians pinned DC deep, Ta’amu started on his own 23. He completed a pass to Chris Blair for a 19-yard gain, and then Ta’amu ran the ball 13 yards to the Orlando 45. With 4 seconds remaining a Matt McCrane 63-yard field goal attempt was short, and Orlando celebrated their first win of the season.

The final score was Orlando Guardians 37, DC Defenders 36.
