Showboats wide receiver Daewood Davis had a great game against the San Antonio Brahmas. He was the top receiver for Memphis, catching six passes for 58 yards and one touchdown.

Davis feels lucky to be playing for the Showboats and feels the coaches trust him to apply his skill set to the job.

“I just feel like the coaches have faith in me,” Davis said. “They believe in my skill set and believe in my talent. They gave me the opportunities to make the plays, and I made them.”

Davis played college football for the Oregon Ducks and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. After going undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft, Davis signed with the Miami Dolphins.

On August 26, 2023, during the fourth quarter of the Week 3 preseason game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, Davis suffered an injury after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit while attempting to catch a pass. Davis was left immobilized and taken off the field on a cart. The Dolphins would eventually waive Davis with an injury settlement ahead of the team’s cuts for their 53-player roster.

The Memphis Showboats signed Davis on October 1, 2023. Now, two games into the 2024 UFL season, Davis is relishing the chance to return to the field and demonstrate his abilities.

“This is a great opportunity,” Davis said. “Things didn’t work out for me in the NFL. I now have this opportunity to show the world, ‘Hey, I’m still here, and I’m still a ballplayer. I still can play.'”

Davis is thrilled to be in a spring football league and is eager to share with others how beneficial it is for young players.

“I have friends in an upcoming combine that play for Western and other schools, and I’m telling them, ‘If you don’t get drafted, you don’t get picked up, there’s still an option out there in spring football’,” Daewood said.

Other than an opportunity to play the game he loves, Davis was thrilled to play in front of a home-field crowd in Memphis.

“It was great,” Davis said. “I have not played football in a while. So, just getting in that atmosphere, seeing the fans, and playing for the fans and trying to hype up the crowd was amazing.”

“When I scored my touchdown and came over to the sideline, people called my number and called me by name, it was amazing,” Davis recalled.

Look for Daewood Davis and the Memphis Showboats in their next game on the road in Birmingham, on Saturday, April 13 at 7:00 PM ET (FOX). Tickets are available at Ticketmaster and Stubhub.
