Las Vegas – (4 March 2001) — On the eve of Week Five of the inaugural XFL season, the Western Division-leading Las Vegas Outlaws (3-1) today announced plans for a “Name the Outlaws Defense” promotion, inviting XFL Las Vegas fans to submit their ideas to name the team’s league-leading defense.
In the spirit of the great defenses in pro football history, such as “The Steel Curtain” (Pittsburgh Steelers), “The Purple People Eaters” (Minnesota Vikings), “Orange Crush” (Denver Broncos), “The Doomsday Defense” (Dallas Cowboys) and “The Monsters of the Midway” (Chicago Bears), the Outlaws are asking XFL fans to give a moniker to the defense that has allowed just one touchdown in four games, leads the league in most defensive categories and allows an average of just six points per game.
Entries can be submitted by sending a postcard to the Las Vegas Outlaws, ATTN: “Name the D” contest, 101 Convention Center Drive, Las Vegas, NV, 89109. All entries must include entrant’s name, address, telephone number and e-mail address, if available, and must be received by the Outlaws no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15.
The Las Vegas Outlaws will select the winning entry. In case of multiple winners, a drawing will be held to determine a winner, who will receive:
– recognition at the Outlaws’ March 17 game vs. Birmingham
– an XFL Football, signed by members of the Outlaws’ defensive unit
– an interview on ESPN Radio 920 AM’s “Outlaw Monday” radio show
– an Outlaws replica jersey
– two seats in the Outlaws suite at the Sunday, April 1st contest vs. San Francisco
Entry forms can also be found in the Las Vegas Review-Journal sports section, while the Outlaws are planning a giveaway item based of the defense’s nickname for the April 1 game vs. San Francisco.
