Deserving of a pint of the dark brown elixir itself, Brian Goldsmith drew some the biggest cheers at the finish line when he set a Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon run in a football uniform.
Wearing an Arlington Renegades uniform, the 37-year-old ticketing representative recorded a time of 3:29.30. Goldsmith needed to break the time of 3:33.42 run by Australian Alistair Kealty at the Dubai Marathon in 2019.
Arlington Renegades team representatives were waiting at the finish line to congratulate Goldsmith.
“At mile 20 I started cramping,” Goldsmith told the Dallas Morning News. “I just kept telling myself to get to the next mile, kept playing that game. Today was as nervous as I’ve ever been.”
Goldsmith had been training by wearing a helmet on runs. In addition, he wore the full uniform to the office to get used to it, as seen in a tongue-in-cheek TikTok video.
@go4thegoldyfitness Since I’ll be spending (hopefully) around 3.5 hours on Sunday at the marathon, I figured I’d wear the full getup to the office this week to really get used to it 😜 . Watch me run my way to the Guinness World Record for the fastest football-clad marathon! Can I score a touchdown and break the record? Stay tuned for the epic showdown on Sunday! . Huge shoutout to @brittneygarciadumas , @kentfulkerson and @camkov23 for being a part of the vid! . #OfficeGridiron #footballplayer #footballlife #marathon #marathontraining #xfl #theoffice #athlete #guinnessworldrecord #go4thegoldy ♬ The Champion – Lux-Inspira
