Self-deprecating comedian Larry David recently described the moment he pitched his idea of “no goalposts” in football to UFL co-owner Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
David is an American comedian, writer, actor, and television producer who co-created the iconic sitcom “Seinfeld” and gained further recognition for creating and writing the HBO series “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” a fictionalized version of his own life.
As a guest on the “Rick Eisen Show,” David proposed that the goalposts in football should be removed.
“You know about the UFL that’s starting up? And you know how I feel about the goal posts, right?” David said. “I thought, let me talk to somebody in the UFL, I mean it’s insane. So, my agent got me on the phone with Dwayne Johnson.”
“We had a conversation,” David said.
David described the phone call where he pitched Dwayne Johnson the idea, and it seemed it was going good. David also proposed the UFL run plays instead of kicked converts and even described his idea of a point structure with scrimmage plays for extra points.
Of course, Larry David was asking for something the UFL was already doing.
“Suppose there was a baseball game and there were two parallel bars in deep center field that were 12 feet apart and you could get a guy off the bench to hit a Fungo and if he got through the bars you get a run?” David joked. “I mean, what’s the point? It has nothing to do with the game.”
The 2024 UFL season kicks off on Saturday March 30 with double-header broadcast on FOX, the Birmingham Stallions at the Arlington Renegades at 1PM (ET) and the St. Louis Battlehawks at the Michigan Panthers 4PM (ET).
