Diondre Overton, a wide receiver who spent the last three years playing spring football, first for the USFL and then for the UFL in 2024, passed away on Saturday. He was 26 years old.

According to reports, Overton was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Greensboro, North Carolina. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

This is the second off-season in a row in which a Showboats player has died. Last summer, RB Alex Collins was killed in an automobile accident.

Overton went undrafted out of Clemson in 2020. He found a home with the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL in 2022 and 2023, catching 42 passes over those two seasons. When the decision was made to not carry over the Stars franchise to the UFL, Overton was selected by the Showboats in the Dispersal Draft. He caught three passes for 33 yards for Memphis this past spring.

The UFL acknowledged Overton’s death on social media on Sunday. UFLBoard.com, along with the entire spring football community, shares in sending our condolences to Overton’s friends and family during this difficult time.
