XFL San Antonio Brahmas DL Matthew Gotel signs with Seahawks

On August 17, 2023, the XFL announced that San Antonio Brahmas defensive lineman Matthew Gotel has signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League.

Gotel, a Tacoma native and a graduate from Lakes High School, previously signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He appeared in two preseason games with Seattle last year, then spent time with the Atlanta Falcons for a brief stint in training camp. Gotel won a Division II National Championship in 2019 at the University of West Florida, where he made 26 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks in his senior season.

In 2023, Matthew Gotel played in all 10 San Antonio Brahmas games, where he recorded 23 total tackles, including 6 tackles for a loss.

Gotel’s latest NFL contract is the 12th signed by San Antonio players and the 56th signed by XFL players since this offseason began on May 15. Gotel previously signed with the Atlanta Falcons earlier this month.

To date, nearly 200 invitations have been sent to XFL players for camps or to hold individual workouts with NFL teams since the conclusion of the XFL regular season.The San Antonio Brahmas will retain Gotel’s rights should he return to the XFL.
