XFL week six began with a battle between the surging Seattle Sea Dragons and the Orlando Guardians at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium. This was the first and only meeting of the season between these two teams.

Last week at Seattle’s Lumen Field, the Sea Dragons were successful in beating the highly touted Roughnecks by a score of 21-14. By restricting Houston’s explosive offence, the Sea Dragons established a solid defensive tone and raced out to a 15-0 lead at the half. Orlando’s previous game against Vegas was a losing effort at 35-32, but they showed progress in how they put on an offensive show to almost overcome the Vipers. On the up side, Guardians backup quarterback Quinten Dormady completed 22 of 25 throws for 256 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Dormady is scheduled to start in this game.

The game started with communications down between coaches and players.

Seattle took the kickoff and Ben DiNucci went three and out. Orlando quarterback Quinten Dormady took over and he managed one first down, but could not extend the drive any further. The Guardians were forced to punt the ball back to the Sea Dragons.

Seattle took Orlando’s punt and McKnight had a huge 49-yard return to the Orlando 43.  DiNucci connected to Blake Jackson for a 19-yard pass and a first down. The drive stalled and the Sea Dragons settled for a 37-yard Dominik Eberle field goal making the score 3-0 for Seattle.

Orlando started their drive on their own 18. Dormady handed to Deddrick Thomas for 9-yards, and then tried to air it out to Charleston Rambo on 2nd down but was incomplete. Dormady picked up the 1st down with a 3-yard rush. On 4th and 2 the Guardians punted.

Seattle started deep on their own 7-yard line. A Darius Bradwell rush was stuffed for a 3-yard loss. On 2nd down DiNucci rushed for 3-yards. The Orlando defense stood tall and the Sea Dragons were forced to punt.

Rogers returned the punt 4-yards to put the ball near midfield. At the end of the 1st quarter the score was 3-0 for Seattle.

At the beginning of the 2nd quarter Quinten Dormady connected to Eli Rogers with a 19-yard pass, and then Darrington ran the ball 31-yards to the Seattle 6. The Seattle defense stiffened and would not allow the Guardians to score a major and they settled for a 26-yard Borregales field goal tying the score 3-3.

On the ensuing kickoff, McKnight had another fantastic return, this time for 45-yards. A horse collar tackle penalty was tacked on giving Seattle the ball on the Orlando 30. DiNucci was able to connect to Veasy for first down yardage. However, DiNucci could not complete a pass to Gordon in the end zone and was almost intercepted. Seattle kicked a 27-yard Eberle field goal to make the score 6-3 for Seattle.

Orlando took the ball on their own 35. On 3rd and 8 Dormady ran for 9-yards and the first down, and then a 10-yard pass to Jamiel moved the chains again. Orlando was on the move. Next, a 12-yard pass to Williams moved the ball to the Seattle 38 and then a 12-yard pass to Latimer took the ball to the Seattle 14. An 8-yard Martin rush moved the ball closer to the goal line. On 3rd and 1, Dormady ran the ball to the 3, and on 1st down Devin Darrington ran the ball 3-yards for a touchdown. The 1-point conversion was good on another Darrington rush, making the score 10-6 for Orlando.

On the kickoff return McKnight had another big run of 33-yards to the Seattle 43. Ben DiNucci passed incomplete to Veasy before the two-minute warning.

A pass interference call aided the Sea Dragons moving the ball to the Orlando 44. Ben DiNucci had a big run of 24-yards to the Orlando 14. A Seattle time-out seemed to irk Ben DiNucci. On the next play he threw an interception caught by Najeem Hosein in the end zone.

Orlando received possession on their own 35-yard line. Dormady was able to engineer a first down with less than a minute remaining. Then, a pass to Charleston Rambo drew a pass interference call moving the sticks to the Seattle 45. On 4th and 5 with 30 seconds remaining, Orlando drew a false start penalty. On 4th and 10 the Guardians had to punt.

With 21 seconds left, DiNucci took the ball on the Seattle 35.  DiNucci passed to Green at midfield for a first down with 14 seconds on the clock, and then passed to Jackson for a 14-yard gain on the Orlando 36.  Eberle attempted a 54-yard field goal which was good.

At the half the score was 10-9 for Orlando.

In the 2nd half, Orlando took the ball on their own 26. A 15-yard run by Dormady extended the drive. Dormady passed to Martin who ran it for another first down. On 1st and 10, Dormady was sacked for a loss of 8-yards, putting the ball back at midfield. On 3rd and 21 Dormady connected to Eli Rogers for a 12-yard gain. Orlando had to punt.

A touchback gave Seattle the ball on their own 35. A handoff to Bradwell was good for an 18-yard gain, and then Bradwell was called upon for another 10-yard rush. A Ben DiNucci pass to the end zone drew a pass interference call putting the ball on the Orlando 20. On 3rd and 10, a Ben DiNucci pass was caught by Blake Jackson for a 20-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion pass to Jahcour Pearson was good, making the score 17-10 for Seattle.

Quinten Dormady took over for the Guardians on their own 27. Dormady rushed for 14-yards, then passed to Latimer for a 9-yard gain at midfield. A handoff to Devin Darrington turned into a massive 43-yard run for a Guardian’s touchdown. The two-point conversion pass failed and the score was now 17-16 for Seattle.

Seattle took over on their own 30. A 24-yard pass to Juwon Green put the ball on the Orlando 46-yard line, and then DiNucci slung an 18-yard pass to Blake Jackson inside the Orlando 30. On 3rd down DiNucci connected with Jordan Veasy to move the chains to the Orlando 11.

At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 17-16 for Seattle.

On 3rd and 8, a pass to Juwan Green in the end zone was incomplete and nearly picked off. Seattle settled for a 27-yard Eberle field goal to extend their lead to 20-16.

Dormady took over on the Orlando 17 and immediately connected to Cody Latimer for a 30-yard gain. A 15-yard roughing the passer call was tacked on, taking Orlando to the Seattle 38-yard line. The drive stalled and Orlando settled for a 50-yard Borregales field goal, making the score 20-19 for Seattle.

On the kickoff, Orlando’s McKnight had a decent 24-yard return giving Ben DiNucci field position on the Seattle 31-yard line. Seattle went three and out and had to punt. The punt return was fumbled, but recovered by Orlando’s Washington and brought to midfield.

Orlando could not move the ball and punted. However the punt was blocked by Alijah Holder and Seattle took over on the Orlando  6-yard line. A short pass over the middle to Juwan Green was good for a Seattle touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt failed making the score 26-19 for Seattle.

Down by 7 points with over 5 minutes remaining Orlando took the ball on their own 25. A 12-yard rush by Martin moved the chains. An Orlando false start penalty was a setback, and then Dormady was sacked for a 6-yard loss. Orlando was forced to punt.

Ben DiNucci started on the Seattle 20. An 11-yard pass to Jahcour Pearson was good for a first down. Just before the two-minute warning, on 3rd and 9 DiNucci overthrew Jahcour Pearson who was open downfield.

Seattle punted and Orlando received the ball on their own 27. Dormady passed to Darrington who took the ball for a 13-yard gain and then fumbled the ball. Seattle’s Farris recovered the ball on the Orlando 41-yard line.

Orlando burned off their time-outs to try to keep the clock from running out. On 3rd and 6, DiNucci was sacked for a 3-yard loss. With about 45 seconds remaining Seattle punted back to Orlando. Nizialek’s punt went into the end zone for a touchback.

Dormady started on the Orlando 40 with a 20-yard pass to Charleston Rambo, and then back to Rambo for another 15-yard pass. With 17 seconds left, a pass to Thomas was incomplete. With 8 seconds left Dormady was pressured and another pass to Thomas was incomplete. On 4th down Dormady was pressured and could not get a decent pass away.

Seattle ran out the final two seconds.

The final score was Seattle Sea Dragons 26, Orlando Guardians 19.
