Change is in the air with the Houston Roughnecks, and it’s a change that head coach Curtis Johnson is embracing.
Johnson, new general manager Will Lewis, and VP of Team Operations Catherine Schultz were in Houston on Saturday night for a fan event held at No Label Brewing Company. For those who attended, they got to hear directly from the head man about the changes that would be in store for the 2025 Houston team, coming off a disappointing 1-9 2024 season.
“We’re getting younger, we’re getting faster, we’re getting bigger,” Johnson told the gathering in a post shared by the Roughnecks social media account. He also said they were looking for players with the desire to get into the NFL.
Johnson had praise for his new GM, calling him “a superstar in the spring league…We can’t do any better than having a guy like this. And you see his attitude, you see his passion.” Lewis also spoke to the fans in attendance.
Both Johnson and Lewis were in town to attend the Houston UFL Showcase on Sunday. While it’s not been confirmed what coaches will return for 2025, Johnson participating in an event like this would seem to indicate he plans on being back.
