On January 7, 2025, the United Football League reported that linebacker Jabril Cox had been signed by the Arlington Renegades.
Prior to coming to the UFL, Cox played college football for the North Dakota State Bison, and at Louisiana State University, before being was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL draft.
Cox grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and attended Raytown South High School, where he was a multi-position star. His athletic prowess shone through as a dual-threat quarterback, linebacker, and even as a wide receiver, safety, and cornerback. During his senior year, he amassed 2,103 passing yards with 18 touchdowns and ran for 1,004 yards with 13 scores, earning him first-team all-district honors. His sophomore and junior years were marked by similar accolades, showcasing his all-around football talent.
Cox played for North Dakota State University, where he transitioned to linebacker from his initial position as a defensive back. Over his tenure with the Bison, he was part of three consecutive FCS National Championships (2017-2019). His performance was stellar, leading the team in tackles twice and earning first-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors in 2018 and 2019. Cox’s career at NDSU included 258 tackles, 14 sacks, and 6 interceptions, marking him as a dominant force on defense.
In a move to elevate his game before entering the NFL Draft, Cox transferred to Louisiana State University as a graduate transfer for the 2020 season. At LSU, he quickly became one of the team’s standout players, finishing third in tackles with 58 and adding 6.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. His transition to the SEC level was seamless, proving his adaptability and skill in coverage, which would become a highlight of his professional profile.
Cox declared for the 2021 NFL Draft where he was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round (115th overall). His rookie season was cut short due to a torn ACL sustained against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8 of the 2021 season. Despite this setback, he showed promise with his coverage abilities and special teams contributions.
In 2022, Cox returned to the field for the Cowboys but struggled to reclaim a significant role on defense, playing mostly on special teams. His career with Dallas was further complicated by depth chart challenges, leading to his release in August 2023 after the preseason. Cox then signed with the Washington Commanders’ practice squad, where he spent the 2023 season, occasionally being elevated to the active roster.
Most recently, Cox has signed with the UFL’s Arlington Renegades, marking a new chapter in his professional football journey.
