TMZ recently cornered Johnny Manziel and asked him about his football playing future, and the news that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was now a co-owner of the league.
Before we go any further, it should be pointed out that Manziel was always touted as a possible XFL player, but was never even put on the draft list for the XFL. Although, Houston Roughnecks head coach June Jones once remarked he would consider giving Manziel a shot, nothing ever transpired.
When a TMZ reporter asked about the chance he would consider playing in the XFL, Johnny Football said bluntly, “I’m retired, dude.”
As the reporter pressed him for more, asking if the fact that “The Rock” was now involved might change his mind, Manziel said, “Listen, anything ‘The Rock’ touches is gonna be gold as always. But, I think football is a little bit behind me… I’m just trying to do other things in life that make me happy. That’s it… There’s more to life than just ball.”
Since winning the 2015 Heisman Trophy as a superstar Texas A&M quarterback, and then becoming a 1st-round NFL Draft pick for the Cleveland Browns, Manziel’s career has been on a slide. Johnny Football followed an eventful but lackluster NFL career with an equally abysmal CFL career, ending with him being banned from the league. Despite having measurable football talent, Manziel consistently had trouble putting it together both on and off the field.
Still, the TMZ reporter would not leave him be, and kept asking Manziel if he might consider a return if he was asked.
“You never say never, I’m still an athletic guy… but at the end of the day, let’s see where the rest of life takes me and we’ll go from there,” Manziel said. “Football for me is not at the forefront of my mind. It’s just chillin’ and being one of the bros.”
Johnny Manziel’s CFL play got better with time. They put him in the first game with only four days practice. The XFL should merge with the CFL and play a 2020 season fanali indoors in a bubble. Manziel should be reinstated and allowed to play.
Sounds like Johnny is as through with football as football is with him! One thing for sure….at some point in his future…..he will realize what he threw away and he will know the bitter taste that regret has!
