A graduate of Long Island’s Stony Brook University, Connor Davis has a long-time relationship with pro football, including various stints with spring football leagues.
In 2019, the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) signed Davis. He was on the injured reserve list for the entire 2019 season before the league shut down. The XFL St. Louis Battlehawks drafted Davis, and he remained with them until the league ceased operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After that, Davis was able to get the NFL’s attention. He signed with the New York Jets on August 15, 2020, but was released a week later. On November 13, he was signed to the Jets’ practice squad, where he remained until he was released on May 7, 2021. The Cleveland Browns signed him on May 23, 2021, but later placed him on injured reserve on August 23, 2021, before waiving him on October 16, 2021.
On March 11, 2022, the Michigan Panthers of the United States Football League (USFL) drafted Davis in the 2022 USFL supplemental draft. He was transferred to the team’s practice squad before the start of the regular season, where he remained until being activated on April 30.
On December 12, 2023, Davis signed with the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL. The signing did not turn into a playing position as the Roughnecks brand was transferred to the Houston Gamblers when the XFL and USFL merged, and former Roughnecks players were placed in the UFL dispersal draft. Davis remained a free agent until he was picked up by the San Antonio Brahmas on February 26, 2024.
Although Davis has played tight end in the past, the Brahmas have reportedly signed him as an offensive lineman.
Back in 2020, when Davis was beginning his XFL playing career as a part of the XFL St. Louis Battlehawks, he exhibited a positive attitude and a desire to make a professional career playing the game he loved.
“It’s another opportunity to play football, and play football at a very high level, at a professional level, and make a living off it,” Connor said. “If you’re a guy in my situation, it’s not much more you can ask for if you still have an opportunity to make a living off of playing a sport and continue your career.”
It looks like Connor Davis will continue his storied career with the UFL.
