The Birmingham Stallions confirmed they had signed tight end Jace Sternberger for another season with the squad.
Sternberger began his spring-league career with the Stallions in the 2023 USFL, where he was named All-USFL; he returned to the Stallions when they became part of the UFL in 2024. He had 58 receptions for 971 yards and 11 touchdowns over these two seasons, leading the league in receiving touchdowns in 2023.
Sternberger played at Kingfisher High School in Oklahoma, initially as a quarterback before switching to tight end after a shoulder injury. He also played defensive end, basketball, and track, showcasing his versatility.
He began his college career with Kansas (2015-2016), where he redshirted his first year and played sparingly in 2016, catching one pass for five yards. In 2017, he joined Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, where he had a standout season with 21 receptions for 336 yards and six touchdowns, which led to recruitment by Texas A&M (2018), where he had a significant impact, becoming a consensus All-American with 48 receptions for 832 yards and 10 touchdowns, earning first-team All-SEC and numerous All-American honors.
The Green Bay Packers selected Sternberger in the third round, 75th overall, of the 2019 NFL Draft. In 2019, he played in three games, spending much of the season on injured reserve. In 2020, he appeared in 12 games, recording 12 receptions for 114 yards and one touchdown. The Packers waived him after he received a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy in 2021.
Afterward he had short stints with the Washington Football Team (2021), Pittsburgh Steelers (2021-2022), and the Buffalo Bills (2023) but received very little playing time.
