San Francisco – The Bay Area – (26 February 2001) — The title of this article was the result for the Demons in their second loss in front of a crowd of about 34,000. Reasons: the FIVE turnovers.
Yes, five. One interception by Mike Pawlawski. Another Interception Pat Barnes. THREE fumbles (two of them recovered by the Outlaws) by Pawlawski and another fumble by James Hundon.
The Demons Defense again allowed a large number of rushing yards. 88 in total. But 90 yards to Rod “He Hate Me” Smart. (Mark Grieb is reported as getting negative two yards). Where was Terry Battle? He was limited to only one rush for a no gainer. Again the defense allowed less yards than their opponent. But fir the first time ever, they didn’t get any turnover.
The lone bright spot in the game was Pawlawski’s TD swing-pass to Brandin Young. That was when the Demons took a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter. And a 36 yard Field Goal by Mike Panasuk, not to get confused with Mike Pawlawski.
A rival building? Oh yes. There was a lot of pushing and shoving among the players. Demons WR Jimmy Cunningham and Las Vegas Outlaw DB Kevin Scott were both penalized for their clash in the first quarter.
I don’t know what to say. Is the Outlaw Defense that good? Or was it just the Demons bad day? Or was it that earthquake I felt a bad omen after all? Whatever it was, this loss is costing the Demons just more than a game. If the Xtreme win, they will be one game out of the playoffs.
