The Houston Roughnecks hit the road in Week 8 to take on the San Antonio Brahmas in a divisional matchup. Both teams lost their last game, and Houston has dropped three games in a row after opening the season with a four-game winning streak. This will be the second meeting all-time between the two teams. In Week 3 of the season, the Roughnecks took down the Brahmas by a score of 22-13 at TDECU Stadium in Houston. The Brahmas look to even the series in this game, and continue winning through the remainder of their three-game homestand that ends their regular season at the Alamodome.

Parker Romo kicked off for San Antonio and the ball was returned to the Houston 30-yard line. Houston quarterback Brandon Silvers was hit on his first play. On 3rd and 10 he converted a 10-yard pass to Justin Smith for a first down. On 3rd and 2, backup quarterback Cole McDonald was brought in and he handed to Max Borghi for a 2-yard run and a first down, and then Silvers came back in and passed 20-yards to Borghi on the sideline. On 3rd down, Silvers passed to Travell Harris who ran for a 22-yard gain to the San Antonio 4-yard line.

San Antonio’s head coach Hines Ward challenged the play for a “hands to the face” infraction against Houston. The challenge failed and the play stood.

Brandon Silvers passed to Deontay Burnett for a touchdown. The 1-point conversion attempt failed, making the score 6-0 for Houston.

San Antonio received the kickoff and Brahmas quarterback Jack Coan started a drive on his own 29-yard line. An 8-yard rush by Jacques Patrick gave the Brahmas a first down, and then a 12-yard pass back to Patrick moved the sticks just past midfield. On 3rd down, Brandon Akers caught a 22-yard pass on the Houston 20.  Then, Coan passed short to Jacques Patrick and he rumbled the rest of the way into the end zone. The play was reviewed by Dean Blandino and he ruled Patrick was out of bounds at the 1-yard line.

After getting stuffed on 1st down, the Brahmas put in backup quarterback Jawon Pass, but he was dropped for a 1-yard loss. On 3rd and 2, Jack Coan came back in and he was pressured and sacked for a 5-yard loss. San Antonio settled for a 26-yard Romo field goal to make the score 6-3 for Houston.

Houston took the kickoff and Silvers started a drive on his own 25-yard line. On 3rd down, Silvers passed 20-yards to Justin Smith, moving the ball to midfield.

At the end of the 1st quarter the score was Houston 6, San Antonio 3.

On 3rd and 6, Brandon Silvers was sacked and the Roughnecks were forced to punt. San Antonio took a fair catch on their own 10-yard line.

Jack Coan passed short to Yelder and he managed to wiggle his way for a 6-yard gain. On 2nd down Coan was sacked for a 7-yard loss, and on 3rd down T.J. Vasher caught a 9-yard catch for a first down.  Jacques Patrick ran for 13-yards to move the chains again. Then, Jack Coan rushed to the San Antonio 45 for another first down, keeping the drive alive. Coan passed to Brown for an 18-yard gain, and then handed to Patrick who ran 13-yards to the Houston 24. Coan was sacked for a 3-yard loss, and then a catchable pass to Yelder was dropped. The drive stalled and Romo kicked a 42-yard field goal to tie the score 6-6.

Brandon Silvers started on his own 25-yard line. An 8-yard pass to Borghi followed by a 7-yard Borghi run moved the markers. On a pass down field the Brahmas were called for pass interference which moved the markers to the San Antonio 39. On 3rd and 10, Silvers connected to Bandy for an 11-yard gain on the San Antonio 28-yard line, which took the clock to the two-minute warning.

The Roughnecks drive stalled and Austin Jones attempted a 41-yard field goal which was good, making the score 9-6 for Houston.

With 0:56 remaining, Coan drove the ball from his own 19-yard line. On 3rd down Coan connected to Fred Brown for 12 yards and a first down, and a roughing the passer call tacked on 15-yards for the Brahmas. A Coan pass intended for Alize Mack was intercepted by William Likely and returned to the Houston 42-yard line. Brandon Silvers passed long downfield for Travell Harris and his pass was intercepted by Koerner and returned 49-yards to the Houston 29, which ended the half.

At half time the score was Houston 9, San Antonio 6.

San Antonio took the kickoff in the 2nd half, and Coan began a drive on his own 25-yard line. Coan’s pass intended for Patrick was batted down by Houston’s Mason who ran it back to the San Antonio 7-yard line. Silvers passed to a wide open Owens for a 5-yard touchdown. The 1-point conversion failed, making the score 15-6 for Houston.

San Antonio started their next drive on their own 37-yard line. Coan went three and out and the Brahmas punted. Houston’s Brandon Silvers had the same result with a three and out and a punt back to San Antonio.

Jack Coan started on his own 35. A hand off to Hilliman coupled with a pass to Hilliman was just good enough for a first down. Hilliman caught another pass for a first down just past midfield, and then Coan was sacked for a 5-yard loss. On 3rd and 8 Coan was pressured and he could not complete a pass. A 59-yard Parker Romo field goal attempt was short and wide right. However, a Houston penalty gave San Antonio 4th and 3 and Jack Coan came back on the field. A short pass to Fred Brown was low and could not be caught. San Antonio turned over the ball on downs.

Brandon Silvers handed to Alleyne for 2-yards and then passed to Bandy for an 8-yard gain that moved the chains. Silvers could not convert for another first down and the Roughnecks punted. The punt return was fumbled, but the Brahmas recovered.

Coan had the ball on this own 16 and handed to Patrick for 3-yards, and then passed to Akers for 10-yards and a first down. Coan passed to Alize Mack for a 14-yard gain up to the Brahmas 45-yard line.

At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 15-6 for Houston.

On 3rd and 3, Houston got to Jack Coan and Rivers sacked him for a 9-yard loss. The Brahmas were forced to punt.

Silvers started on his own 40-yard line. He passed to Max Borghi for a 21-yard gain. Houston challenged for a face-masking penalty on the Borghi tackle, but the challenge failed. The drive would stall and the Roughnecks were forced to punt.

From his own 12-yard line, Coan handed to Jacques Patrick for a 19-yard rush. Coan was pressured and could not progress the drive any further. With 8:55 remaining the Brahmas punted.

Houston started on their own 18. San Antonio pressured Brandon Silvers and nearly stopped the Roughnecks, but a holding penalty gave Silvers a fresh set of downs. The Brahmas kept up their pressure and sacked Silvers for a loss of 9-yards. Houston was forced to punt.

San Antonio started their drive on their own 35. The Houston defense held them to virtually no gains, and the Brahmas punted.

With 3:51 on the clock Silvers started a drive on his own 31. Houston tried to keep it on the ground as to run out the clock, but Silvers passed on 3rd down and was picked off by Kelly, giving the Brahmas the ball on the Houston 36-yard line.

Jack Coan delivered a 15-yard pass to Akers on the Houston 21, and then Patrick ran for a 3-yard gain. The clock ran down to the two-minute warning with San Antonio on the Houston 18.

On 4th and 10, Coan passed into the end zone to Vasher and drew a defensive pass interference penalty putting the ball on the 2-yard line. Jacques Patrick rushed the ball 2 yards for a San Antonio touchdown. Down by 3 points the Brahmas attempted a 3-point conversion to tie, but the conversion failed.

With 1:07 remaining the score was 15-12 for Houston. Instead of an onside kick the Brahmas attempted 4th and 15 from their own 25. Houston’s Harris was called for a 5-yard penalty and San Antonio was given a 1st down.

With 1:01 remaining Coan had the ball on his own 30.  A 9-yard pass to Mack and a 13-yard carry by Patrick gave Coan a first down.  Coan carried the ball himself for a 10-yard gain. On 4th and 4, a 49-yard Parker Romo field goal tied the game 15-15 sending the game into overtime.

The overtime consisted of each team being given three attempts at a two-point conversion from their opponent’s 5-yard line.

Houston’s first try was a pass intended for Travell Harris that was incomplete. San Antonio’s first try was a pass intended for T.J. Vasher that was also incomplete.
