10 October 2000 – Some of the Xtreme’s playing corp is starting to take shape. On Thursday, Sept 28th, the Xtreme worked out former UCLA star Tommy Maddox. The word is that Los Angeles Head Coach, Al Luginbill, liked what he saw in Maddox. The coach is also excited that he may be starting the season with a quarterback who has pro playing experience.
The Xtreme can have Maddox in an LA uniform because they will be able to protect a number of players from UCLA, USC and San Diego State.
After leaving UCLA following his sophomore season, Maddox was a first round draft pick of the Denver Broncos in the 1992 draft. Maddox was able to become a starter when John Elway was sidelined for four weeks due to an injury. When Maddox started he was a 21 year-old rookie, becoming the youngest QB to start an NFL game in 46 years.
The Xtreme also worked out former New York Giant wide receiver Thomas Lewis. Lewis was a first round draft pick, selected 24th overall by the Giants in 1994. Unfortunately, Lewis’ NFL career was plagued by knee injuries.
Another college stand out who recently worked out for Los Angeles was former BYU quarterback Steve Sarkisian. Since graduating, Sarkisian has spent some time with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian League.
A former Heisman Trophy winner, Rashaan Salaam will be working out for the Xtreme this Thursday.
