The XFL announced today that D.C. Defenders linebacker Ferrod Gardner has signed a contract with the National Football League’s Washington Commanders. Prior to his time with the XFL, Gardner spent time with the Commanders during their 2022 training camp.
Gardner, a Louisiana-Lafayette product, was chosen by the D.C. Defenders in the 10th round of the XFL Supplemental Draft held January 1, 2023.
Gardner’s signing brings the total number of XFL players who have signed an NFL contract to 22, including seven who had earned All-XFL Team honors following the 2023 XFL season.
Since Monday May 15th, the date XFL players were allowed to move to an NFL squad, 67 XFL players have either had individual workouts with NFL teams or have signed contracts with an NFL team. In the case where players return to the XFL, the league has determined they will go back to their former XFL squad.
