This game marks the second time the Seattle Sea Dragons and the St. Louis Battlehawks will played this season, with the Battlehawks winning the first match 20-18 in Week 2. In that game St. Louis placekicker Donald Hageman kicked the game winning field goal as time expired.

This time the teams are meeting with higher stakes involved. If the Battlehawks are able to win this week, the Sea Dragons will be eliminated from playoff contention. If the Sea Dragons are able to win, they will be tied in the standings with the Battlehawks with the week 10 games to decide who gets to play the DC Defenders in the Northern Division Championship game. It is all on the line this week.

Seattle got possession first and starting quarterback Ben DiNucci led off their first possession with the ball on their own 26-yard line. St. Louis penalties combined with short running plays gave Seattle two first downs. On 3rd and 3, a 9-yard pass to Jahcour Pearson moved the chains to the St. Louis 48. DiNucci methodically moved the ball downfield until he passed to Green for a 14-yard gain to the St. Louis 9-yard line. From there, Hammonds rushed for a 9-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion was made good with a Lindsay rush, making the score 8-0 for Seattle.

St. Louis Battlehawks quarterback A.J. McCarron started a drive on his own 29. Hill rushed for a 3-yard gain, and then a 13-yard pass to Shepherd moved the chains. Jennings rushed for 10-yards to move the markers again. A 21-yard pass to Marcel Ateman put the ball on the Seattle 24. Afterward, the drive stalled, and St. Louis settled for a 45-yard Donald Hageman field goal to make the score 8-3 for Seattle.

Ben DiNucci started on his own 33-yard line. He passed to Veasy for 7-yards and then an illegal contact penalty moved the markers for Seattle. Lindsay ran for 3-yards. At the end of the 1st quarter DiNucci faced 3rd and 7 at the Seattle 48.

At the end of the 1st quarter, Seattle led 8-3.

The first play of the 2nd quarter saw DiNucci pass 52-yards to Jordan Veasy for a touchdown. Unfortunately, a face masking penalty brought the play back. On 3rd and 17, Hammonds ran 14-yards to the St. Louis 48, and Seattle was forced to punt.

McCarron started deep on his own 8-yard line. He passed 38-yards to Marcel Ateman up to midfield. On 3rd and 5 he connected to Austin Proehl to move the chains. McCarron passed to Darrius Shepherd and his second effort allowed him to run it in for a touchdown. A 2-point conversion attempt was no good making the score 9-8 for St. Louis.

DiNucci started on his own 20. He passed to Gordon for 4-yards and then was sacked for a 7-yard loss. On 3rd and 13 he could not connect to Pearson. A late hit on DiNucci did not draw a penalty. Seattle was forced to punt.

After a Battlehawks penalty on the punt return, McCarron got the ball deep on the St. Louis 17-yard line. Walker rushed for 3-yards and then McCarron was pressured and sacked for a 4-yard loss. The Battlehawks were forced to punt.

From his own 47, Ben DiNucci passed incomplete to Green and then connected a 4-yard pass to Jahcour Pearson. On 3rd and 6, DiNucci ran for the first down. However, the officials marked him short. On 4th and 1, DiNucci passed to Josh Gordon for a 42-yard gain, and on the next play he passed to Veasy for the touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt failed, making the score 14-9 for Seattle.

A St. Louis penalty on the kick return gave McCarron field position deep on his own 12-yard line. He connected to Ateman for a 7-yard pass before the two-minute warning.

McCarron passed to Ateman for a 14-yard gain to the St. Louis 32.  On 3rd and 8, a St. Louis penalty pushed them back 5-yards. McCarron passed 13-yards to Ateman for another first down. Then, McCarron passed deep to Jennings, but was intercepted by Qwynnterrio Cole who returned the ball 39-yards to near midfield.

With the clock ticking down, Ben DiNucci engineered a quick drive. He passed 8-yards to Pearson and then deep to Gordon, but that play was nullified by a holding call. With 0:15 on the clock, a pass to Hammonds was good for 7-yards, and then another pass to Hammonds lost 4-yards. The Sea Dragons ended the quarter with a little razzle dazzle, but were unable to score.

At half time, Seattle led 14-9.

St. Louis took the kickoff and McCarron’s drive started on the St. Louis 18. The Battlehawks went three and out and punted.
DiNucci started on his own 37. On 1st down he was sacked for a 5-yard loss. On 2nd down, DiNucci passed to Jahcour Pearson who ran all the way for a 68-yard touchdown. Battlehawks head Coach Anthony Becht challenged the play but his challenge failed. The 3-point conversion failed, making the score 20-9 for Seattle.

McCarron started a drive on his own 31, but could not get a first down and St. Louis had to punt. DiNucci did the same, starting on his own 26 and also went three and out.

McCarron started with decent field position on his own 40. He passed to Jennings for 8-yards and then handed to Jennings for 6 more yards to move the chains. A 17-yard rush by Jennings moved the sticks to the Seattle 29. A holding call pushed St. Louis back 10 yards. On 3rd and 16 McCarron was sacked for a 1-yard loss. Donald Hageman kicked a 54-yard field goal to make the score 20-12 for Seattle.

McKnight returned the Hageman kickoff to the Seattle 25. A 10-yard pass to Pearson moved the chains, and then DiNucci was sacked for a 5-yard loss. DiNucci passed to Pearson for 8-yards and then passed again to Jackson for 10-yards and a first down. Hammonds rushed 5-yards to the St. Louis 47, and then Green picked up a 16-yard pass to take the ball to the St. Louis 31-yard line.

At the end of the 3rd quarter Seattle led 20-12.

Seattle’s drive stalled and the Sea Dragons opted for a 52-yard Eberle field goal attempt, which was short and to the left.

McCarron passed to Proehl for 7-yards and then handed to Jennings for 2 more. On 3rd down, a short pass to Jennings moved the chains. McCarron was able to pass 5-yards to Jennings. However, on 4th and 5, McCarron completed a pass to Ateman but his gain was short of the first down.

DiNucci started on his own 36. He passed incomplete to Veasy, and then ran it 6-yards himself. On 3rd and 4, DiNucci ran 7 yards for a first down. DiNucci faked a handoff to Hammonds and ran the ball to the left for another 14-yards. DiNucci passed deep to Gordon in the end zone, but the ball was intercepted by Denis and returned to the St. Louis 10-yard line.

On the next play, McCarron passed to Darrius Shepherd but he was intercepted by Thompson, who returned the ball to the St. Louis 16.

Lindsay rushed for 8-yards. On 3rd and 2, Ben DiNucci ran 8-yards for the touchdown.  The 1-point conversion was good, making the score 27-12 for Seattle.

McCarron got the ball on his own 28-yard line. He was sacked twice and was unable to get a first down. The Battlehawks punted just before the two-minute warning.

Seattle seemed determined to run the ball and grind down the clock. On 1st down, Hammonds rushed for a 19-yard gain to the St. Louis 41. St. Louis did not quit and tried to force the Sea Dragons to punt. However, with 0:59 remaining, on 3rd and 14 DiNucci connected to McKnight for an 18-yard gain and a new set of downs.

Seattle could have gone into victory formation, but they played for points in case of playoff position tiebreakers. They ended their drive with a 36-yard Eberle field goal.

Final score was Seattle Sea Dragons 30, St. Louis Battlehawks 12.
