This was the second half of a home-and-home series between these teams, where Arlington won the first game on the road in San Antonio’s Alamodome. Although they got the win, the Renegades did not run roughshod over the Brahmas. With a relatively low 12-10 score, both teams were either very successful on defense, or pathetic on offense.

Arlington wanted to win this game just to keep pace with the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL Southern Division. For the Brahmas, winning this game was practically essential for them to obtain a playoff berth. Losing this game not only put them further behind the Renegades, but it also gifts the season series to the Arlington squad.

The Brahmas took the kickoff and started on their own 34-yard line. San Antonio quarterback Juwan Pass started the drive by handing to Jacques Patrick three times for an initial first down. Then, the Renegades defense got tough as they sacked Pass for a 4-yard loss. At 4th and 2 on the Arlington 47 the Brahmas were forced to punt.

Arlington’s quarterback Kyle Sloter took over on the Renegades’ 35-yard line and went three and out. The Renegades punted back to San Antonio, and Juwan Pass took the ball on his own 30-yard line.  Pass drove the ball 11 plays for 59 yards before the Brahmas settled for a 29-yard Parker Romo field goal to open the scoring at 3-0.

Sloter began an Arlington drive on his own 24-yard line. He could not move the ball and the Renegades were forced to punt again.

The 2nd quarter began with Kurt Benkert on at quarterback for the Brahmas. In his first XFL drive he went three and out.

Drew Plitt came in at quarterback for Arlington. The word was they were going with a two quarterback system in this game. Plitt generated a 1st down with an 11-yard pass to Arconado. Penalties shut down the drive and Marquette King was brought in to punt.

Benkert took over on his own 12-yard line. Again he could not make any progress and the Brahmas punted back to Arlington.

On his first play at scrimmage, Drew Plitt was sacked and he fumbled. The ball was recovered by San Antonio Jordan Williams who ran it in for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed, making the score 9-0 for the Brahmas.

Arlington put Kyle Sloter back in as pivot. He was able to connect to Brandon Arconado for one first down, but nothing more. The Renegades punted.

Juwan Pass was back in for San Antonio, starting on his own 22-yard line. At the two-minute warning Pass was three and out and the Brahmas were preparing to punt.

Sloter took over on this own 33-yard line and could not do anything. The Renegades were forced to punt it away.

The Brahmas went back to Benkert at quarterback. On 2nd down Benkert fumbled the snap, but recovered the ball after a 6-yard loss. The Brahmas punted the ball to end the half.

At half time, the score was San Antonio 9, Arlington 0.

Arlington took the kickoff and fielded the ball on their own 27-yard line with quarterback Drew Plitt behind center. De’Veon Smith was good for a 14-yard run. Plitt was sacked, and another De’Veon Smith run of 9-yards was not enough to extend the drive. Arlington settled for a whopping 53-yard Taylor Russolino field goal to get on the scoreboard. Brahmas now led 9-3.

Benkert took over on the San Antonio 20. He was intercepted by Donald Payne who returned the ball to the Brahmas 33-yard line. Plitt connected a 16-yard strike to Winningham with an unbelievable catch for the touchdown.  The 1-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful making the score tied 9-9.

On the kickoff return the ball was fumbled. Drew Blandino reviewed the play and the Brahmas retained possession. Juwan Pass went three and out and punted back to the Renegades.

Arlington’s Kyle Sloter took over on his own 18-yard line. A long rush by Brown and a 13-yard pass to Becker moved the chains. Sloter was sacked by Scott for a 4-yard loss on 2nd down. Arlington would have to punt the ball.

Juwan Pass took over on the Brahmas 40-yard line. He went three and out and the Brahmas punted right back to the Renegades.

At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was tied 9-9.

Kyle Sloter looked to drive the ball from the Arlington 16-yard line. Relying on runs by Brown, Arlington was able to make a first down. On 3rd and 8 a pass to Sal Cannella was tipped and fell incomplete. Sloter complained he was hit in the face, but head coach Bob Stoops did not challenge the play. The Renegades punted.

From his own 25-yard line Benkert aired it out downfield and was incomplete, but a pass interference penalty gave the Brahmas a first down on the Arlington 34. Benkert failed to convert on 3rd and 3 when a pass to T. J. Vasher was incomplete. Brahmas head coach Hines Ward challenged for illegal contact on a receiver and was not successful. The Brahmas settled for a 46-yard Parker Romo field goal to make the score 12-9 for San Antonio.

Drew Plitt took over on the Arlington 31. A Brown rush moved the sticks, and then a 47-yard pass to Payton gave the Renegades a first down on the San Antonio 11-yard line.  The Brahmas defense stood tough and forced Arlington to attempt a 36-yard Taylor Russolino field goal which missed.

From their own 25-yard line, and with 3:10 on the clock, the Brahmas offense attempted to run out the time. A 32-yard Jacques Patrick run was good to move the chains. Two more Patrick rushes were good for another 1st down. At the two minute warning the Brahmas had a first down on the Arlington 31.

On 3rd and 9 Hillman was only able to get 2 yards. Then, an amazing 46-yard Parker Romo field goal was good, making the score 15-9 for San Antonio. (Note: The league stats web site had it as a 56-yard field goal)

Down by 6 points with 1:41 remaining the Arlington Renegades took the kickoff to their own 16-yard line. Drew Plitt connected a 26-yard pass to Vander Esch to the Arlington 42. Plitt passed to Brown for a first down, and an unnecessary roughness penalty tacked on 15 yards moving the ball to the Arlington 42. Drew Plitt was sacked on first down, and then he connected to De’Veon Smith for a 21-yard pass for a first down. Plitt was running out of time, and with 14 seconds remaining he threw downfield only to be intercepted by the Brahmas Tenny Adewisu.

The final score was San Antonio Brahmas 15, Arlington Renegades 9.
