One of the fan-favorite DC Defenders, Cole Boozer always enjoyed the fans and playing the game he loves.
He actually made the switch to the offensive line in college when he was originally recruited to play tight end at Temple. He even ran a 4.60 40 yard dash coming out of high school.
“Something that makes me stand out is my athleticism and speed for the position I am in. Being a TE in college has helped me to be quicker in the position,” Boozer said.
Arguably, not many offensive lineman can say they can run a 4.60 40 yard dash, even below five seconds flat is pretty speedy for a lineman. Speed is a very underrated trait to have as a lineman.
Drafted as a Defender
After college, Boozer would go undrafted in the NFL Draft, but was picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After spending 2018 with the Buccaneers, he was cut after the 2019 training camp.
Soon the XFL would come calling, leading to Boozer hearing his name called by the Defenders in the phase five portion of the 2019 XFL Draft.
“It was an awesome day because I was not drafted in the NFL so it was pretty cool to be a part of,” Boozer remembers.

He would immediately become a fan favorite for his great character and just being an overall good person. Boozer would also go on to wear the number ’69’ which a fan found the motivation to get a tattoo of for Boozer.
The Defenders had a very fond love for their football team. One of the traditions was one of the most known in the XFL, the beer snake. “It was awesome!” Boozer says, “It was one of the best traditions in the XFL and some of the best fans in the league”.
Boozer had a lot of fond memories in DC, but the one that sticks out was, “Beating NY then interacting with fans and seeing the large beer snake the fans had created.”
The energy and hype that Defenders fans brought was just incomparable.
Being a Defender was fun, but it also required a lot of time in the training room and staying ready for action.
“It was very tough we worked hard great coaches and players made us one of the best teams in the league loved the fans were some of the best in the league!” Boozer said.

After the XFL season came to an end, Boozer was motivated to stay ready and locked in on his next opportunity, whether it be the XFL in 2022 or the NFL sooner.
“Right now I’m working out every week and I do yoga to keep me in shape and flexible,” Boozer stated.
Boozer stays ready also by watching some of the best in the game and modeling his game from the greats.”I would I try to model my game off of Joe Thomas and Taylor Lewan two great tackles who are the best in their position,” Boozer shared.
“My family and my dog are the reasons I am still grinding to help them live a better life along with the fact that I love the game of football,” Boozer explained what keeps him grinding.
It is certainly great to see Boozer still staying motivated and ready for action in these times of uncertainty. That really shows how much he loves the game of football.

Cole Boozer is very athletic for a 6’5, 309 lb lineman. Quite possibly if he joined the NFL he could be one of the most athletic linemen in the league.
If your team is debating on taking a shot on Boozer, he is more than a viable option. There are not many more linemen with his athletic ability on the market.
