XFL St. Louis BattleHawks QB Jordan Ta’amu (Credit XFL.com)
It was a busy Saturday morning for the NFL, as quarterbacks for both the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
First, it was the New England Patriots and Cam Newton testing positive, then it was the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu.
Ta’amu was immediately added to the Chief’s reserve list.
The Patriots and Chiefs were scheduled to kick off Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. However, the NFL has now released a statement that they would indeed be rescheduling the game.
“The New England-Kansas City game scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday will be rescheduled to Monday or Tuesday after positive COVID-19 tests on both teams.“
Ironically, it was reported that Ta’amu had been playing the role of Newton in the Chiefs practices leading up to the match.
Before being signed by the Kansas City Chiefs, Jordan Ta’amu became a quarterback for the XFL’s St. Louis BattleHawks when he was allocated to the team on October 15. 2019. After signing a contract with the BattleHawks, Ta’amu was named the starting quarterback on January 29, 2020. As a BattleHawk, Ta’amu passed for 1,050 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions in the shortened five-game XFL season.
In his February 29, 2020, game against the Seattle Dragons, Ta’amu recorded a career high 16 carries on the ground as well as being 20/27 for 264 yards in the air. With a completion percentage of 74%, and accounting for 327 of the offense’s 392 yards, it was one of his best games as a BattleHawk.
After being release by the BattleHawks when the XFL closed, Ta’amu signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on April 2, 2020. On September 5, 2020, the Chiefs waived Ta’amu, but he was signed to their practice squad the next day.
XFL fans surely hope he recovers from COVID real soon.
