US Army Sponshorship

Post by MarkNelson »

Seeing the US Army badges on all the uniforms is cool, plus the interviews and commercials. I’m looking for an official announcement of the sponsorship and can’t see that there is any. Did I miss it?

Nope. I mentioned that in the first game thread - I was surprised the U.S. Army wasn't a part of the blue-chip sponsor press release given the patch on the uniform and apparently sponsoring the Command Center.

Jersey Mike's wasn't named as a blue chip sponsor either, but the games on Fox at least were "presented by Jersey Mike's."

That’s a nice chunk of change. Considering player payroll is roughly $2.5M per team that pays half the leagues salaries in one sponsorship.

What a grossly slanted, biased article. Eek.

Maybe the Army paid (mostly) for The Rock to wear their badge.

The reporter who did this story also states that the Army has limited avenues to advertise. So, they spent ad money with the UFL, a minor league? Well, they are getting the "Army" brand throughout 43 broadcasts on network television and ESPN, and if the reporter hasn't noticed, those airings are getting decent ratings, nearly on par with other more mainstream sports.

I read Mark's post too I tend to agree with you both.  The Army is getting a good deal.  40 (3 regionalized overlaps) games for $11mm.  And FB fans are the types are the types the army is looking to join, you can't advertise NFL games in the spring... these are the second best thing this time of year.

But it does tell you there were those in the army both for and against this investment.  And the possible reason for the Rock's position (which is just smart biz anyway).

Based on the meetings earlier theis year seems the military was seeking out sports so I don't get this negative slant either.  Whether they overpaid or underpaid is a separate issue - but sponsoring and advertising in spring FB is a no-brainer to me.
