Labour Day Weekend is all about CFL Rivalries

Post by MarkNelson »

What is cool about the CFL is the long lasting tradition of home-at-home games between rival CFL teams starting on Labour Day.

Edmonton vs. Calgary
Winnipeg vs. Saskatchewan
Toronto vs. Hamilton
Montreal vs. BC

Admittedly the Montreal - BC rivalry, not being regional, was a battle of two teams on either side of the country.

Do you remember these promo videos from 21 years ago?

Y'know, there is one old tradition about Labour Day that I miss.

For much of the 2010s, there used to be a non-CFL Canadian game in the Labour Day noon time slot, either the Canadian Junior League (like the Hamilton Hurricanes) or OUA university ball. That seems to have disappeared since COVID. Now those games are only played on the weekend before.

Gimme more football!
