Post by 4th&long »

Give CBS Sports credit for at least covering the league - comprehensive article here. With their sports needs and Paramount+ they could be in play for USFL coverage in future years.

CBS-S: USFL Power ratings for Wk1

TB #1, NJ last?

>> 1. Tampa Bay Bandits (+450)

For my money, the Bandits have the best coach-quarterback combo in the league. Head coach Todd Haley is likely best known for being the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2012 to 2017. Specifically toward the back half of his tenure, the Steelers offense was routinely inside the top 10 in points and total yards. He now is paired with quarterback Jordan Ta'amu (the No. 2 pick in the USFL draft), who made a name for himself in the XFL. In the five games played for the St. Louis Battlehawks, Ta'amu had a passer rating of 101.3 and completed 72% of his passes. He also averaged 5.3 yards per carry. That showing allowed the Ole Miss product to bounce around the NFL for the past two seasons. Most recently, he was briefly signed to the Carolina Panthers practice squad. <<

CBS-S: USFL coverage wk 1 Sunday games

>> The USFL's first weekend of games isn't quite finished yet. Sunday's triple-header took a hit due to the weather in Birmingham, Alabama. It started when the first game between the Michigan Panthers and Houston Gamblers was delayed an hour, and concluded with the nightcap between the Tampa Bay Bandits and Pittsburgh Maulers getting postponed (the game will now be played Monday at 7 p.m. ET).

Sunday's two games that were played didn't disappoint. The first saw the Houston Gamblers narrowly hold off a furious comeback by the Michigan Panthers, whose would-be winning touchdown on the final play was juggled incomplete in the end zone. <<

I'm liking the vibe coming out of CBS... they may have interest in the league going forward or even XFL.

>> The New Jersey Generals notched their first win of the season on Friday night, downing the Michigan Panthers 10-6. All 16 points were scored in the first half and both teams missed field goals as they struggled to get things going offensively.

Panthers quarterback Shea Patterson had a chance to engineer a game-winning drive with just over four minutes left and came close to a dramatic win. Once facing a fourth-and-20 from their own 10-yard line with one minute left, the Panthers rallied to move the ball all the way to the Generals' 16-yard line with five seconds left. However, Patterson's final throw fell incomplete. <<
