TSL daytime matches MLS primetime in unpromoted Debut

Post by 4th&long »

A bit of a twist BUT...TSL got 380k viewers on FOX 3pm Saturday and given we knew it was less than MLS 389k at night from the Saturday Network #s from Showbuzz the day before - not bad. SO they basically got the max they could since it didn't crack the net total.

ABC with a matching FCS semifinal got 706k viewers. Being that was promoted more and is an ongoing sport - Not bad for TSL.

Once FCS spring FB final is over (think that's next week) than TSL has the full FB fan market to themselves. I hope the FCS final is not head-to-head with TSL next week.

MLS at night got: 389k 8-9pm and 441k 9-10pm on Saturday as well.

Conclusion: Not great but solid news for TSL on first FOX broadcast. They may beat MLS on Fox at far lower cost... time will tell. I expect TSL to INCREASE viewers over time as the broadcast and cable games raise awareness and FCS closes out season.

The FCS championship game is on Sunday, no worry there.

And it took the Arena League nearly four years into its reboot to get these kind of numbers--that was ArenaBowl XXVI, a.k.a OMG KISS IS GETTING A TEAM!!!!!! game, pretty sure FOX had that in mind when they did that 'No Gimmicks' ad.

I think the AAF was getting similar ratings when they had games on TNT. Wonder how many viewers the games on cable had....

TNT averaged 571k including week 1 which had 1,018k. Sans wk1 they averaged 422k. Similar to TSL's viewership

TSL on FS1 did not crack the top 150 for the 18-49yo demo, therefore Showbuzz daily did not like total viewers.

Also note AAF on NFLN avg'd about 350-380k (one rating was unavailable so exact figures not avail)
