The rebooted XFL, set to begin play in 2020, has announced it will reveal the eight cities it plans to place teams next week. And the choice of venue for its big press conference is likely a sign New Jersey will be getting a team again.

XFL founder Vince McMahon and commissioner Oliver Luck will hold a press conference on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford to “unveil cities and venues for XFL’s inaugural season in 2020,” according to a press release, as well as provided “a detailed update on the state of the league.”

If the press conference is being held in the Meadowlands, you have to think the XFL is planning on putting a team there, too.

Old Giants Stadium housed the Hitmen for the XFL’s first and only season in 2001. The initial version of the XFL, created by McMahon, the WWE chairman and former NBC Sports president Dick Ebersol, arrived to great fanfare, but flopped mightily despite its high profile and national TV deal on NBC. The league folded after just one year.

It would be exciting if team names and logos were introduced at this press conference but at the same time, it might aggravate fans who feel like they should be a part of that process.
