XFL, USFL in “advanced” merger talks

If this is true and they're looking at 6 hubs, it seems to me that 10 teams in their own cities might have been a compromise no one really wanted if it meant not having at least one team in the NY/Philly area. One league is owned by a network, after all.

Personally not enthralled by the hub thing. It's one of the reasons I tended to prefer the XFL and the longer it goes on the more it hurts the optics of the league. Hopefully a single entity helps to secure investors and in turn helps secure home fields for all teams.

In this scenario I think we're talking 6/12 and not 6/10, since 10 teams in 6 hubs doesn't really make sense unless you consider a 1 team city to be a "hub". 10 teams in their own cities, I think, may have been the front runner until they felt they really needed a NY or Philly team but so far haven't been able to secure a lease due to costs for the big stadiums or disinterest from the soccer stadiums or local universities.

If Pennsylvania is in play, I tend to think it's Philly, because they have multiple options. Pittsburgh only has one option: Acrisure and that could be very expensive.

Other than Acrisure, there is no western PA option.

Philadelphia has the Linc, the Union's stadium, Penn, and Villanova all with adequate/acceptable size stadiums.

If it's not Acrisure in Pittsburgh, the next biggest is some high school stadiums that all have serious capacity/logistical issues. North Allegheny, Woodland Hills, Gateway, Upper St. Clair, Pine-Richland... none would work for this. And the USL team Riverhounds stadium only seats about 5,000 absolute max.

What about central PA? Hersheypark holds 20k, there's Beaver Stadium (likely a stretch)... I mean if we're going to play semantic games, a team representing a whole state like Pennsylvania is a market bigger than even NYC.

I am still of the opinion that the merged league will keep only one of the Generals or Stars.

That's why I think that the Maulers will be gone when the leagues merge. I suspect that Canton is getting a whole new team. There are reports that the USFL also has the Spring League trademarks, so one of those trademarks might go to Canton.

That's why I think that the Maulers will be gone when the leagues merge. I suspect that Canton is getting a whole new team. There are reports that the USFL also has the Spring League trademarks, so one of those trademarks might go to Canton.

They do. It's easy to verify on a trademark website. USFL Enterprises seems to have purchased all of TSL's trademarks including their USFL ones. But I strongly suspect that they won't be using the TSL ones.

If they had Washington D.C. as a hub, they could call the Stars, the Baltimore Stars in order to attract some Baltimore fans.
