Wondering if I should pull up the Wildcats/Guardians game thread from 2/29/20 (the one where they pulled in about 12K/pre-empted by 10 minutes of Trump telling everybody what Fauci told him to do) and see if 4th was as insistent on 'Yes this is what you should be doing" as he is now, I don't remember offhand.
And what was the viewership for that game? Like 1.6 million ? right
Which was topped later in the day by Dragons/BattleHawks, but I digress....................
Even Luck hardly thought that was enough--that and at the time of the shutdown, the R word was definitely on the table.

MM said he heard similar. Mark Perry of USFLnewshub & XFLnewshub thinks that's a waste of resources. Could not agree more. I prefer USFL but would accept XFL... a new name seems like alot of time, money and energy waste. Unless its a combo from USFL/XFL. Still just a rumor.

BREAKING: The #USFL and #XFL are currently pursuing a new league name in regards to their merger discussions, confirmed by multiple sources.
Major development to watch closely. If the XFL-USFL merger goes through, it is extremely likely that we see an entirely new brand.

So what did RBC get when they purchased XFL? Fox was looking for a name for their league and purchased an existing IP. But RBC looks like a total reevaluation of the XFL.
You’re killing both brands unless you’re committing to aggressive marketing if you pursue a new name.
Honestly I think even a lazy name like USXFL or USFL-X would be better than an entirely new name.
I could understand one angle though. The XFL and USFL are both legacy names. Creation of a new brand they can manipulate using the XFL and USFL to form a fan base is probably tempting.
But….
If talks have proceeded that far, they really are deep and this is almost imminent. I would think you’re gonna see a XFL draft in October with the Birmingham Stallions picking after the Renegades.

TBH, I'm not sure how much equity there is in those names at this point (it'll certainly change the marketing since so much of the XFL was built on what the "X" represented). You have the diehards for each, but based on ratings and attendance, neither brand really connected with a broader audience that this group is going to need to reach to survive.

There's lots of equity - they've advertised these names for 2-4 years now. If they don't use the name it looks like they (ie failed) and ANOTHER NEW attempt is being made. Is that the message they want. They got nearly 30mm a year viewers over 3 years annually. I'd prefer USFL but I'll go with XFL... new just looks like another AAF fail to XFL.
