High Drama -

I have no idea what Oregon and Wash are thinking... B1G may call their bluff and they can be on Apple TV behind a paywall.

>> Will the Big Ten add the Ducks and Huskies?

The B1G previously green lit commissioner Tony Petitti to begin expansion talks with the Ducks and Huskies, and some clarity is now shining through when it comes to possible payments.

Ross Dellenger reported the Big Ten is expected to offer the two PAC-12 programs up to $40 million each to join the B1G. That’s a partial share of what current members earn. The new media deal pays roughly $1.1 billion annually.

Dellenger noted the increased travel across the country “could create some hesitancy” but the PAC-12 collapsing could force Oregon and Washington to pull the trigger. <<

SOMEONE MADE A DECISION

Post by 4th&long »

Congrats to OreGONE and Washington for having the balz to do the best thing they can do for themselves. The Wimps at AZ, AZ St and Utah - Please grow a pair... "oh we don't want to be the ones to kill the Pac-12" give me a break... USC/UCLA already did that along with remaining schools incompetence. Now these three should go to the Big12 and call it a day.

You're aware AZ is already in discussions and is expected to soon finalize a deal to join the Big 12, right?

Not only that he also assigned the "death blow" to the wrong party, that was the B1G. UW is set to play UNLV in 2028, I figure about it'll be about then when it all the sudden isn't good enough for the West Coast Children (kind of like Texas' discontent starting in the early 2000s).

Nobody remembers what happened to the WAC and just assumes that oh we're the big SEC/B1G/Big XII we'll pull it off, nevermind what's about to go down with the ACC, which will end up flooding the market even more.

BTW since this is XFLBoard, to steer this to some relevance, XFL better do all they can to please their ESPN overlords if this is the marketplace.

Based on USA Today's article, every Pac 12 team (save 3) did better on average ratings wise than the XFL's average, and even then the best offer they got was an incentive based Apple deal predicated on drawing subscribers. This would be a real bad market to go deal shopping in any time soon.

Nick1091 gets it... and why (beyond just FB) it's germane to the XFL/USFL alt FB in general. Now keep in mind that along with most linear nets undersiege (Disney with subscribers, movies, costs, etc), Fox with lawsuits and News taking a hit, CBS/Paramount The Flash bomb, streaming and stock declines... for some examples, that Pac-12 is competing for money when a host of other CFB FB inventory is available... some alot cheaper (ie MW) vs winter-spring-summer when XFL/USFL play. This was not a good time for XFL to launch with another league out there. HOPEFully both get thru this rough spot.

And on the flip side even MW is paying schools $4.4mm (Boise gets more) per team and year. So there is some hope but NOT when pushing costs up ie two competitors.

Absolutely - but this should have been DONE WRAPPED and SEALED - no need to shy away like this spineless AD/Boards are doing ... its time for a bold move sans what Oregon/Wash do. That being said latest reports are AZ, Az St and Utah will be accepted into the Big12 tomorrow.

And I really think his solidifies Big12, likely more so than ACC but at least on par as #3 league behind B1G/SEC

Here's more on Pac-12 screwups...

Could Pac-12 poach MW and survive ?

Post by 4th&long »

If the Pac-12 remaining members were serious about looking to survive as group, pulling in the largest members of the MW and renegotiate a new TV deal even at $8-10mm a year may have a chance.

UNLV , Fresno & SDST are stuck in MW, there's some good, but more weak than good.

If Commissioner GK can look to get merger with only the strongest members perhaps it works - or that Pac-MW merger may be needed.

O St, W St, Cali, Standford, SD St, San Jose St, Fresno, UNLV and Boise and maybe 1 more for an 8/10 team conference may appeal to some in MW to shed the weak members and tap into the Pac-12... pipe dream? Likely but you never know. IMO keeping the Pac-xx name at some level makes sense.

So what have we learned from everything?

--Once again, the media has been trash. Selective reporting, omitting facts, reporters turned to cheerleaders..............Look I understand all about trying to keep relationships, but are you a journalist or what?

--Oregon and Washington blew the whole thing up for, in the next three years, a 60% increase over where they'd be at. Not small potatoes, but the costs of dragging around all the non-revs (the big three will be fine) hardly make it worth it, which is why I said yesterday that in 2028, you thought there was discontent now. A lot to merely get those home games with Ohio St/Michigan back that they lost to the lockdown. Will it have been worth it five years down the road? Goes for USC/UCLA too.

--The Big XII may be the only conference in the realignment eras (at least the only power conf anyway) that has gone basketball first. Only Utah brings anything on the gridiron. Colorado will until Deion leaves, but CU basketball has been more successful.

--What a clownshow. Not only should Kliavkoff have resigned if these jackals weren't going to let him do his job, but I think it's pretty much clear that Luck would have been in the same spot had he got it.
