Well with XFL and USFL seasons a wrap... CFB is next on tap in the US (a bit OT but still FB)
And if you think figuring out XFL/USFL status is mind pretzel.. look at the PAC-12.
What a mess currently and time is a wasting...

No Linear TV deal in sight, limited appeal with just the Pacfic/Mountain time zone teams (~17% & 6% of national households), no USC/UCLA (2024). When you take out LA that 17% Pacific time zone shrinks alot too.
SDST just screwed themselves, why they would trust news reports on Pac12 having a deal by 6/30 is beyond me.
Looks like major changes coming to Pac-12 and likely spill over to MW. B1G 10 and Big 12 or even SEC could benefit.

Did you even read the article you posted?
At the end, it says a linear deal is almost a certainty.

All rehashed "news". Meantime, P12 can wait until mid-August/Labor Day if they need to--the B1G timeframe from last year. Meantime USC/UCLA are beginning to have a bigtime case of buyer's and seller's remorse, they may pull in $40 mil extra from where they are now but the work involved to do so almost hardly makes it worthwhile (yeah let's see how years of dragging your non-revs to Evanston and Bloomington for conference tilts works for you).

Longer flights but still flights and a bus ride to the school far from the airport.

Re: PAC-12 status and media rights deal
Spokane to Pullman is like 20 miles longer than Indianapolis to Bloomington, hardly worth skipping conferences where everything's two time zones away (at the nearest) and the benefit from doing so will be obsolete in 3-5 years anyway. And you think UCLA had attendance problems the last couple years, wait until November (later years) when Illinois or Northwestern come to the Rose Bowl as opposed to a Saturday showdown with Utah.Sykotyk wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 3:39 pmAs opposed to Pullman, Boulder, Corvallis, and Eugene?MGB01 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 1:45 pm All rehashed "news". Believe me the amount of articles I get in my feed everyday from Trojan and Bruin wire which are "concerned" with the P12 are more than enough to tell me you ****ed up with saying you ****ed up. But hell with em both, they propped up Larry Scott for years, don't like your new bed? awwwwwwwwwwwww

Did you ? That was a quote from May (fantasy month)... Pac-12 is a disaster. They keep claiming its a few weeks away - they even conned SDST that they would have one by end of June. Now the clock is really ticking.BattleHawks wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 1:29 pm Did you even read the article you posted?

If they do get a linear deal expect it at a sizable discount... the networks can wait it out as the clock ticks down with 1 season left... this season. They even screwed up getting SDST.

Re: PAC-12 status and media rights deal
Is it that they can't get a TV deal, or is it that they are expecting too much money for their TV deal?
The Pac-12 plays games in time slots that most of the other leagues don't. That alone makes it a valuable TV product—IF they can find the proper price.
The problem is, they think they can get a B1G/SEC/ACC level contract when that's not their strength. Even if ESPN, Fox, CBS or NBC shelled out obscene B1G/SEC/ACC level money for the Pac-12, what guarantee would it bring that its member schools would all of a sudden be championship contenders? Those three super-conferences have the college sports world, especially the college football world, by the neck. It's not a Power Five, it's a Power Three (really, Power 2½, since the B1G West that UCLA and USC are joining is so far behind the East, it might as well be a separate conference)—and Notre Dame AFAIC is counted as part of the ACC. Big XII is fourth. Let's not kid ourselves.
Until the NCAA steps in and starts putting stricter regulations on number of teams in a conference—the exact opposite of the policy they've been pursuing—we're going to head toward a policy of a few huge mega-conferences... and the rest.
The Pac-12 should take advantage of their late-night time slots and take the kind of money they can get.

They aren't looking for B1G/SEC/ACC, they are looking for Big 12 money. Tthey can't get that money with a WC only league, one without USC or UCLA. As I illustrated above the Pacific time zone is only 17% of the nation population and Mountain is only 6%. That's a consideration too.
Now agree that a deep discounted Pac-12 deal may be coming but that likely pushes Oregon and Washington to bolt for the B1G-10 and they the domino's fall.

Re: PAC-12 status and media rights deal
We'll see next Friday won't we? Although as I said, it's not a hard date
The announcement that the ACC is moving games to CW could be a test run for a subpackage, although to be clear these are the fourth-tier Raycom-produced games (the first three being ABC/ESPN, ACC Network, ACCNX/ESPN+)--so while they landed Cincy/Pitt for their first game, their second will probably be VMI/North Carolina State. The Pac 12 (or Pac 10) won't have that much inventory, so it should be about the third tier if they do.
