Trouble at TSN

Post by johnnyangryfuzzball »

A TSN radio station in Edmonton just got shut down, another in Toronto got substantial program cuts.

Basically, the Bell System (which survived up there) lost nearly $300 million, much of that from their landline phone services. They're also feuding with the CRTC (Canada's version of the FCC) over regulatory issues and basically have said that AM radio is dying.

How much of that affects the CFL yet... well, not yet. None of the stations that were closed have CFL rights anymore.

BellMedia is a conglomerate in Canada, and they had to make cuts. Nothing has affected the CFL broadcasting at this point. But who knows what lies ahead?

Update:

Again, this is largely adjacent to TSN itself... but the Bell System (which also owns a substantial stake in the Argonauts) is losing money up there. The latest is an appeal to cut local news at its owned-and-operated stations.
