Well get this.......I recently read an article about the NHL team where the suggested name of "Sockeyes" was panned because it can be easily punned to "Suckeyes"..... insisting the name should be "Seattle Seamen"...... like THAT can't be punned?
Take the "a" out and whatya got?......"Semen". It's a horrible sounding name and that better not be it Actually...... any name you choose can be punned. Even my favorite "Seafarers".......(seafairies). I still want it though.

They'll be able to touch base with NHL Seattle and make sure no one's toes are being stepped on. I don't think that's a big hurdle.

I can just see it now, "the Seamen are all over the Stallions today!" What's to pun? HA HA

I did a little research yesterday on the Seattle NHL team and most of the names bandied around have also been proposed for Seattle XFL; that could prove interesting. Who would get first choice I wonder and how many possible names have already been locked up by one league or the other? I also favor the Seafarers and that was not previously associated with the NHL team that I could find.

Also, I agree 100% with Sounder, anyone can (and will) make fun of any team's name, especially when losing i.e. Seattle Sub Sonics, Seattle Sub Mariners, Seattle Sea Chickens... Waddya gonna do; it's part of the fun of sports!

I also went and looked at an online dictionary for other appropriate Sea... words and while there are a lot of them, not many would be a fitting name for a football team. The only one I found that might work (I still favor Seafarers) is Sea Dragons; that at least would make for a pretty cool logo potential. Wahtever the XFL comes up with, I'll be behind it; I just hope it's a decent name.

Right. I am wondering how far the XFL will go to avoid stepping on those toes if they would like one of the proposed NHL names. How far along is the NHL in deciding? If the NHL goes with "Sockeyes" does the XFL want to go with another fish name or stay away from it? If the XFL has to go first, they may avoid all proposed NHL names and go with an original. If they go second, they could use what's left.

"Seafarers" might be to close to "Mariners" for them, also...or maybe not.
It's gettin' hot in here...and we about to burn 'em up!

Looks like the 2020 XFL champion may be 2-3 seconds short of playing a full season :?

Most people think the NHL will go with Seattle Totems. I'm sure XFL has approached NHL about it though.
