Who said that the AAF folding and the XFL going bankrupt was the death knell of Spring Football? Seems like we have kinds of leagues trying to get up and running lately. Should be interesting to see how it all plays out.

I don't agree, the XFL is trying to build a multimillion high rise with pent houses and the whole 9 yards. In my NJ shore town a building like that took nearly 10 years to develop and is now 90% sold at an average of $3 million per condo. The TSL/USFL/etc. Is basically a cockroach tenement

Not apples to apples. NJ had some BAD towns that took years to revitalize eg Asbury Park. The USFL isn't trying to revitalize a town, just keverage it. but XFL and USFL likely will avoid the tough markets and go into what TV wants - big markets.
AAF made the mistake of not hvaing the money and spread too thin in small markets.
XFL did it right but Covid hit and (i'll keep my mouth shut) and the fear porn made VM sell out too quickly otherwise XFL was a success.
TSL is proving strong enough (apparently) for FOX and B Woods to move forward with a recognizable brand and likely leverage the two to have a more XFL city like league. But they are building small and reducing risk so they can grow into it instead of XFL2.0 or AAF where they got afraid to fund it or ran out of money before they got started.

I'm sure that's technically true, but if Woods' name is in the press release, seems like a distinction without a difference.

"Got afraid to fund it" my foot. The government(s) literally blocked the XFL from finishing its season, and they still had to pay the salaries to which they committed for the rest of the year with zero gate revenue or TV revenue. Let me remind you that even TSL had to cut their spring season short and didn't have those pesky things like player salaries to worry about.

That I will acknowledge, but the money issue is still unresolved. Brian Woods doesn't really have all that much. He burned through most of it with the FXFL (around 8-9 million--a tiny sum compared to the tens of millions minimum to run just one year of a pro-level league like the XFL).

It remains to be seen whether players will continue to play for only room and board, and for how long. Even the loyalists like Zach Mettenberger will eventually need to see a (proverbial) ROI.

VM was afraid to fund the XFL 2.0 in a suspended way or bubble and declared bankruptcy, he was worried about losing everything. XFL 3.0 is different, they want a lucrative contract (their words) to move forward.

I'm not cmparing TSL to XFL in a competitive way, I'm pointing out what happened.

If/when the XFL/CFL make a joint announcement on inter-league play I don't see any other league, outside the lower indoor rungs making it. With the CFL history and Redbird's money the sky is the limit. While being on network television is ideal, I'm perfectly find watching games on Amazon, Yes Network, Stadium, Hulu, etc. NBC is without sports for the most part again and I can see CBS fitting some games in. ESPN 2 could easily have a game of the week as well. Plus all the extra advertiser money north of the border from companies that won't touch an all Canadian league, would love to shill their product to U.S. audiences. (Molson, Lebatt Blue, and Tim Horton's anyone?)
