PFN: UFL Reportedly in Talks for Houston Return to TDECU

Post by 4th&long »

Speak of the devil, just mentioned that in the attandance thread I posted.  Really think they need to return to TDECU

>> Although the full TDECU renovations won’t be complete until August of 2025, it looks as if things could be in shape to host the Roughnecks next season. <<

And another subtle way of the league to say WE'RE BACK in 2025!

Well, this isn't surprising since Rice was only a temporary solution. Not that it has underperformed compared to the rest of the league; after all, outside of St. Louis, the whole league is down in attendance quite a bit. And the fans that are showing up look like they have an outsized presence.

Make amends with June Jones, and that could make a world of difference.

June Jones... Great idea!  Forgot about him.  Even as OC, he needs to be there.

I've yet to see any evidence that hiring a head coach with history in a particular city positively affects attendance. I think you make those hires when you can all the same because it's a hook to get local media coverage for your team and to put that awareness into the community, but no one is going to games to see the head coach.

Perhaps, but Zorn in Seattle and Spurrier in Orlando did seem to help.  Certainly in media interest.  Attendance was strong from get go in those cities with those guys.

I'm thinking June Jones will help with media a bit and get that Offense scoring   Winning also helps get fan and media interest.

Well, we've only had a few years.
And I say Jones because he had that history in Houston, he won in Houston. Right now the big issue in Houston more than anything is that they suck—and not only does a guy like Jones, who gave his heart and soul to this league, have a great record in his time both with the Roughnecks and the Sea Dragons OC, but it also helps make the Roughnecks, the Roughnecks again. Without technically disturbing that "merger of equals" thing.

Houston is going to have to seriously consider a coaching change this offseason anyway. I say, get him in. A combination of recognition and winning record can't hurt the team.
