Found this on Reddit, so take it FWIW:
Apparently on Friday USFL Enterprises applied for 2 new trademarks for
The Ohio Bulldogs
The Nashville Tuners
The Bulldogs appears to be an homage to the Canton Bulldogs, although it's not clear if this prospective team will be in Canton and can't get the Canton Bulldogs name or whether they might be housed in another part of Ohio (Columbus?). There has been speculation that there is an ownership group in waiting here so it could make sense.
Likewise, Nashville was rumored to be a relocation destination for the Vipers, so that could very well have been due to potential ownership interest in that area. I get the "why" behind the Tuners name, but that one might need some getting used to.

What's interesting to me is the current LLC is UFL Enterprises LLC. I wonder why they wouldn't just register them under that if it's for a future UFL team?

Someone needs to tell the league to move a little more westward lol. There’s a whole part of the country missing

There's a reason for that: by keeping the geographic footprint smaller, it keeps expenses down.
Nashville was being considered as a potential home for the Vegas Vipers before the contraction—at least if you believe the rumors.
And Ohio... Canton wants the UFL back and they've made no secret of that.
Now keep in mind, those are two cities that the USFL didn't play in them. Most of the heritage brands (with the glaring exceptions of the San Antonio Gunslingers—now in the IFL—and Chicago Blitz, which was used in some small-ball indoor league a few years ago—are still being maintained by the UFL.

I recognize we are most likely gonna get a team in Canton, I welcome it actually, but I feel like legitimatisation of the league will be much better if there was more westward expansion. Three teams in TX is already ridiculous

It might be legitimacy-wise but until there's serious outside investment as well as a second viable western city there won't be any. Why do you think Vegas happened? Cause it was literally the only one to go w SEA
DC works as the only east coast team right now cause it's closer to everything else than Seattle is (DC to SA/ARL/HOU: 1200-1400 miles; SEA to SA/ARL/HOU: 2200-2400).
So you want a more national footprint, need to be working in billions before that happens

Good question. I know since the merger there's been a couple of allusions to making the partnership work, so perhaps doing it this way is a safety net for team rights if they can't. Might be a business decision that whatever side was responsible for bringing a potential owner in pre-merger holds the "rights" for a particular amount of time.

The trademark for the Canton Bulldogs (in addition to the Ohio Bulldogs) has also been requested:

For what it's worth, I don't like either of these names (Bulldogs or Tuners).
Incidentally, despite the merger, I am guessing that each leagues keeps the trademarks of their teams. So that is likely why the USFL asked for these trademarks and not the UFL.
