ESPN by the numbers

Post by laxtreme56 »

Good numbers across the board. Wish the league would push their UFL weekly show more. It's basically the UFL version of NFL primetime. Kinda surprised to see Oklahoma City as the 3rd highest rated market. Might that be a good expansion market or relocation if one of the Texas teams keeps underperforming?

I noted this on Twitter/X, but Birmingham being #1 on this list hasn't translated to strong attendance numbers, so I'd be wary of assuming Oklahoma City at number three would draw big at the box office. Birmingham is the #46 TV market in the country and OKC is #47. If the UFL expands/moves, I'd like to see them get into bigger markets, preferably in parts of the country they're not currently serving.

Besides what stadium is there in OKC? There's the years-in-the-making MAPS 4 project but that's geared more towards the OKC Energy--done the USL thing thank you.

You're better off "underperforming" (which really isn't that much) in DFW and SA because it's always better to do that than go be a mid in Tulsa or Salt Lake City or wherever.

Isn't Norman in the OKC metro? (Yes, I see—less than 20 miles from the city.) It may not be the most ideal but oversized stadiums haven't stopped this league before (ahem, Memphis).

Agreed.  Been saying this since get go, need bigger markets.  UFL is in markets totaling 11.3% of the USA.  XFL 2020 was in 22%.
Is it any wounder 2020 was the best TV season.

And its good that Birm is big on UFL TV viewing but at .62% of the nation for D-FW at 2.46% - its not as big an impact in total.

TV trumps live attendance for $$$, so that s/b the focus.

BTW here's each network for Disney (reg season):

ABC: 970k avg per game (9  games)
ESPN: 708k avg per game (10 games)
ESPN2: 254k 1 game

FOX got:
FOX: 870k avg per game (16 games)
FS1: 243k 1 game
