>> At the end of the day, there are so many variables which are currently unknown. Axios is reporting that the merger will be a 50-50 deal, but that may not be entirely true. We do know that it was Redbird Capital – the XFL’s investment group – who initiated talks with FOX Sports back in July.
In addition, the XFL was in rough financial waters after just one season. As we reported back in June, the league likely lost more than the reported $60 million figure.
We are expecting to hear more as the week continues. An announcement is certainly possible by the end of the week, but time will tell. With this situation being so fluid, there is too much up in the air to say that anything is concrete yet.<<
While xflnewshub's hub has some slightly diff takes there's lots of overlap too.
RBC is shrewd - they know two leagues scares investors while one eliminates uncertainty and makes attracting outsiders to invest much more appealing. They are business savvy and add that expertise along with $$$ to the USFL-XFL.
Fox and the Murdochs are also business savvy, but focus is in media - its a great marriage. With combined financial resources. More TV exposure. A "less is more" unileague meaning less games makes the spring FB less available and more rare and desirable when on television.
I'm already disappointed that both NJ and Philly and maybe Mich are out. I think that's nutz but its part of the price to pay.
It looks like 10 teams seems the consensus at the moment - again that's in line with my educated guess. No way they merge and have 16 teams.
Front Office Sports picked up on James Larsen's article.

>> If the merger finalizes, the XFL and USFL merger might only include some of the 16 franchises in the combined league.
The XFL and USFL each played with eight teams last season, but journalist James Larsen writes, “Regarding a USFL-XFL merger, it is likely that we do not see all 16 teams in action, per source. Hearing that organizations without venues currently secured are in hot water.” <<
