Deion no-show media day = Colorado to Big12
Like I said... Deion No Show made no sense unless Colorado was bolting the Pac-12... They are.4th&long wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 6:50 pmIts odd in that he's been working, has a surgery on media day. He couldn't have it a few days later? Its not some conspiracy to move semi-elective surgery a few days, unless of course you don't care to be there. Unless its more serious than it sounds and then why coach at all. The Athletic called it correctly - big loss for Pac-12 on media day.GDAWG wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 2:33 pmDeion also had a health scare recently. George is like Annie... the media deal is always just a day away...
Then Deion Sanders no shows... granted for a surgery but why not wait till this coming Monday after media day?

Does Deion know something we don't? ie Colorado jumping to Big12? Why bother showing up if that's happening??
The plot thickens

>> Colorado has entered discussions on a move back to the Big 12, according to multiple reports. The University of Colorado held a board meeting Wednesday with another scheduled for Thursday, presumably concerning the potential move. Additionally, the Big 12 has a scheduled meeting of league presidents Wednesday evening with discussion about Colorado's candidacy to join the league planned as part of the itinerary, sources tell CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd.<<
AND HERE'S THE MEAT ON THE BONES
>> Multiple sources tell CBS Sports that Sanders supports a move to the Big 12 because the fertile recruiting grounds of Florida Texas -- both in the Big 12 footprint -- would both open even further for the Buffaloes.<<

Re: PAC-12 status and media rights deal
Can't wait for Brock H to start ranting again about how no one wants the P12 cause of UCLA or (now) CU--should somebody tell him?
So the two biggest backers of Larry Scott are out the door, and the one that never really wanted to come in the first place (Texas mostly drove them out) is about to follow them. Going public with this a month or so ago would have been nice, you know instead of agreeing on the whole grant of rights thing.

What's Next: PAC-12 status and media rights deal
With the Pac-12 losing Colorado, and Denver, to the Big12. What's next? They have now lost 2 LA based teams and Denver. Their biggest markets left are Seattle (U of Wash) and Phoenix (Az St) virtually identical in size. After that its Portland (Oregon) then Utah Utes in SLC. Of course with CFB market size is not all but it certainly helps, esp for teams not named OK or Alabama.
Big12 is looking for min 1 or 3 for even 14/16 teams. I think they really want all 4 of the "corner" schools but won't say. IMO AZ St is the one they want the most, despite targeting AZ Wildcats publically. If AZ St was smart they'd leapfrog AZ and take the 14th spot just incase it ends with 14. That leaves Pac-12 with 8 teams. Oregon and Washington will go to B1G 10 sooner or later, or they are more dumb then they look. With USC/UCLA already there it will make travel considerations less an issue than for the LA teams jumping.
So in the near term that could leave the Pac-12 with current 9 or 8, 6 even 4. What happens to the remaining Pac-12 teams no one is looking to take Cal, Stanford, Or St, Wash St. Now there are rumors of a non-corner school interested in Big12 - maybe that's Cal but not enough not there yet, so I'll pass on that for now.
Many are saying the left overs will jump to MW, But with the Pac-12 name I think the leagues will merge or the top MW teams land in remnant of the Pac-12. SD-St, UNLV, Boise, Utah St or Colo St, Fresno St, San Jose likely and 2 more maybe.
That likely drops Pac-12 to G5 level but ahead of current MW who will be the real terminal victim here.
Another option would be Pac-12 Remnant and MW merger in full. Pac-MW, that way they have a TV contract and maybe Oregon and Wash work out a deal to get $30mm and the rest less.
Of course if its only 4 teams taken from MW, they can survive.
One other option is for Big12 to pull SD St from under the Pac rug and really destabilize Pac-12 chances. Big12 TV deal only gets more TV money with a poach from a Power 5 conference but SD St may be tempting. Solid FB and BktBal plus SoCal/WC and sizable city. In fact they should presue this avenue as SD St may come on in 2025 at a reduced rate but higher than MW and Pac-12 fantasy of survival would take a huge hit. Pac-12 is banking on Big12 avoiding adding a non-Power5 school so that SD St and SMU have only one choice. But OregGONE and Wash aren't staying long term. High Drama in CFB realignment land.

Re: PAC-12 status and media rights deal
Funny, unless there's some sort of plan to bring ASU and Utah along this is/would be a basketball move (apparently there was a Gonzaga/UConn wishlist). Pretty sure it's been mentioned a few times there are escalators in place ahead of say a move to 16 (or 20 if they want to head the B1G and SEC off) so every team gets XXX mil, which I'm sure doesn't make FOX, NBC, CBS, or ESPN too happy.
If it were just football, Utah would be really the only one. In addition to profile in recent years, not only does it make the Holy War a conference game again (first time since 2010) but you also bring along the Utah/Colorado rivalry which was revived in the P12.

even if they drop to 6 schools ( or whatever ) they can still add schools and survive
the latest rumor is $20M per team, which, while pathetic, is still plenty of cash to bring in multiple G5 teams

Re: PAC-12 status and media rights deal
But that number will change with every addition. They're not paying an additional $20m for Utah State, Nevada, Idaho, etc. The average will drop unless they get teams equal to what they've got. And even then, there's a good chance even the current teams valuation drops given the lack of interest in a lot of their potential matchups.
