I guess it would surprise me if it was 12 instead of eight just because the cost would be so much more (especially without a hub), and the point of this merger in large part seems to be to save Fox and RedBird from spending too much money.

I agree, and I wouldn't think this would happen unless they've been able to secure an influx of capital from an investor(s) or another TV partner. But I do think, given some of the variables, that this may be what they've been trying to secure the past few months. And to that end, it may not be quite as much as one might think. Each league has already worked with 8 teams. Pooling resources and eliminating 25% of the product already cuts down some of the costs. If you can find another TV partner to replace NBC and can live with the losses (which is still expected of a start-up for a few years) that might help make it a reality. But if they can't (or haven't) yet then I assume 8 it is.

With the league owners acting like they don’t want to spend money getting this off the ground then they might just fold it up and go home. They need to be ready to invest and build and that means not abandoning markets like Orlando and Seattle.

If these owners are not willing to invest in more than one money losing football season they might as well give up now. Of course, they need to hire good people to manage things. I don't believe they know how to do that.

I agree if this is for just one season... But RBC was already moving to cut costs post season, tells me they are in. And as I've posted ad nauseam XFL should have been looking to merger right after 5/13 championship, and they did. Smart move. I'm glad about the merger per se. But the commitment and execution needs to move faster, disappointed with this dragging and it could be more... hopefully its a done deal soon.
