Russ Brandon talks with XFL News Hub

Not a whole lot new, but it does confirm some things we already knew or suspected:
  • Brandon considered the inaugural season a success, enough for the league to stay the course for the long run. Curiously, he noted that the Battlehawks would remain in operation "for the really long run," as if somehow they'd try to keep the team alive if the league fails. But that's my weirdo speculation.
  • They're staying at eight teams for 2024.
  • They indeed sought bookings for all eight stadiums as potential homes for the championship. So St. Louis hasn't won it yet.
  • Brandon noted that the XFL had taken its playoff tiebreakers directly from the NFL, but that they never expected the St. Louis/Seattle situation to be so close to go as deep into them as they did.

Not sure why it wasn't credited to him by name in the article, but the video embedded at the bottom of the article was done by News Hub's Pat Rifino, who attended the showcase. His Twitter feed also has links to videos of media scrums with Anthony Becht, AJ McCarron, and Eric Magwood done at the showcase.

Hmmm...
This really smells like merger discussions
