NBC talks up Aubrey in USFL

It was late in the SNF game but NBC did talk up Aubrey in USFL & winning two Championships with Birm. Both Colonsworth and Tirico, that was cool.

PFN: Kicker Aubrey Sets Another NFL Record

>> Brandon Aubrey is, at this point, the best kicker in the NFL. The former Birmingham Stallions product has dominated in his first NFL season, setting record after record.

During the Dallas Cowboys’ win against the Philadelphia Eagles, Aubrey was spectacular. He was 4-4 on the night, hitting from 60 yards out, and then 59 – which is something no other kicker has done before in the NFL in one game.

The Dallas Cowboys took notice. John Fassel, special teams coordinator for Dallas, took an under-the-radar trip to Birmingham this year to watch Aubrey kick. He was impressed, and ultimately decided to bring Brandon to Dallas after the USFL season concluded. Interestingly enough, John’s father – Jim – was the New Orleans Breakers offensive coordinator back in 1984.

Had it not been for the national platform that the USFL provided Aubrey with, who knows if this success story would have become a reality. <<

Very interesting. Fassel was smart.

Fassel was an assistant under his dad in the UFL for many years. So he saw the benefits of alternative football firsthand.
