USFL Ball hard to kick

Post by MarkNelson »

I have confirmed from a reliable source close to the USFL game that since, “there is a chip in the ball the size of a golf ball” it’s messing up the placekickers.

Remember, the XFL ball had a strange sweet spot, and kickers had to get use to it. Probably the same thing with the USFL ball. Kickers need to make adjustments.

And/or the coaches. Start going for it/going for two if kicking is harder.

That's a good point.

You’re right. Coaches might compensate by avoiding long kicks. Or kickers will eventually figure it out.

You know there had to be an explanation for wide-spread inaccuracy. It’s not like these kickers to all have bad games.

Agreed. But the Extra points were pretty accurate in game 1, so maybe not 100%.

USFL could go back to non-chip balls for kicks.

idk, the more scrimmage plays the better, imo. But what they should be doing is explaining that the balls are harder to kick so the audience understands that these aren't just bums.

Good point. Kickers in the XFL had special footballs they had pre-conditioned for better kicking. USFL kickers could have similar. Hopefully they figure this out.

Exactly. They aren’t bums.

Have they been practicing with the chipped balls, or is this new for the games?

Daryl Johnston came in the booth late and did say that after the 1st week, paraphrasing "just like the players and coaches we need to see what we did well, and areas where we can do better" - perhaps it will be Chipless kicking balls

I think that's just what every new org needs to do. Overall they had a good week. The time delay Sunday and reschedule game will hurt ratings - but that's what happened, they didn't cry about it and adjusted as needed. No Prob.
