I don't think it's a good idea. All of the attention of the Sports world, even the week between will be about the Super Bowl.

Not only that, AFL did that in 2004 or 2005 and lost a lot of momentum.

That's interesting; I didn't know that. It seems like a good idea, but I guess it just doesn't translate.

To be fair, that may have been ahead of the NHL (which was supposed to return to NBC that year but the season was wiped out by the lockout), but you still possibly had the effect of viewers coming in on February 13 not knowing about the change and giving up right there. And of course the next year when they had both the NHL and the Olympics that was pretty much it--although that underscores why they should have secured their territory while it was there.

Certainly lost them their PSSD (Post Superbowl Stress Disorder) marketing.

The AFL opened in 2006 on January 28 one week before the Super Bowl....and produced NBCs two highest rated weekends at 1.2. Then tailed off as expected as the season wore on.

So the way I see it, it's a "strike while the iron is hot" strategy....for most nfl fans, their season is already done. And who watches the pro bowl anyway?

I don't see the Rock or Dany Garcia going that route. If anything they will kick off the week after.

That was still quite a bit lower than the 2.1 they got opening weekend in 2004, the week after the Super Bowl
