ARLINGTON, TEXAS (August 7, 2023) – The XFL today announced that it has hired Vice Presidents of Business and Events Operations for the D.C. Defenders and San Antonio Brahmas, Kate Greenberg and Evan Ashton, respectively. Greenberg and Ashton will oversee their respective team’s business performance and activations to elevate awareness, drive fan and community engagement, and execute gameday experiences based on the League’s strategic plans.
Prior to joining the Defenders, Greenberg had a successful tenure as Chief Marketing and Development Officer for Washington Nationals Philanthropies, the official charitable arm of the Washington Nationals. In this role, Greenberg led all marketing and fundraising initiatives for the organization and its signature program, the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.
Under her leadership, the organization underwent an extensive rebranding, distributed over 105 grants to area nonprofits valued at $1.79M and increased fan engagement in fundraising initiatives by more than 725 percent.
Greenberg departed the Nationals for a brief engagement with the Washington Spirit in a temporary role as Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
Ashton was promoted to his current role after previously serving as Director of Sponsorships for the Brahmas during the Brahmas’ inaugural season.
Ashton has more than 15 years of experience working in sports highlighted by stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, San Antonio Commanders and San Antonio Spurs Sports & Entertainment. He served as a senior account executive for the San Antonio Rampage and San Antonio FC while with the San Antonio Spurs Sports & Entertainment. Ashton was the Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for the San Antonio Commanders of the Alliance of American Football league. Prior to joining the Commanders, he spent two years as a senior account executive for corporate partnerships with the New Orleans Saints. Ashton worked five years in minor league baseball with Hardball Capital where he worked with the Columbia Fireflies and Fort Wayne TinCaps. He was the vice president of corporate partnerships for the Fireflies and corporate partnerships manager for the TinCaps. Ashton got his start in sports working for his home-state Pittsburgh Steelers, where he worked multiple internships and was an associate for the team’s marketing, youth football and training camp initiatives.
A native of California, Greenberg earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies at UCLA and her MBA in Management at UCLA Anderson School of Management. Ashton is a New Brighton, Pennsylvania native and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Sports Management from Robert Morris in 2008.
