SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (April 6, 2001) – After posting its first two-game winning streak of the XFL season, the San Francisco Demons are one victory away from hosting a first-round playoff battle and that would mean a return to the friendly confines of Pacific Bell Park.
Demons’ Vice President and General Manager Michael Preacher said if San Francisco qualifies to be the home team against the Eastern Division runner-up, either Chicago or New York/New Jersey, the contest would be played at Pacific Bell Park on Saturday, April 14, at 5:00 p.m. PDT.
Tickets for the playoff game went on sale Thursday for the first-round playoff game. Current season ticket holders can call 1-888-4-XFL-TIX starting Wednesday to reserve their seats should the playoff game be held at Pac Bell Park.
San Francisco plays its finale of the regular season Saturday at Los Angeles at 5:00 p.m. on NBC. If the Demons win to complete a sweep of the Xtreme, the teams would share the division title and the Demons would host the playoff game by virtue of beating Los Angeles twice.
Los Angeles would then open the playoffs at Orlando. Chicago holds a one-game lead over New York/New Jersey for second in the Eastern Division and would gain the playoffs by beating Orlando Sunday. New York/New Jersey plays at Birmingham Sunday and would be the fourth team in the post-season by beating the Bolts if Chicago loses.
If San Francisco loses at Los Angeles, the Demons would open the playoffs at Orlando Saturday of next week.
