San Francisco – The Bay Area – (17 February 2001) — Sadly, NBC will not broadcast the Demons game against the Memphis Maniax. So I be listening to the game via radio again.
QB Mike Pawlawski is leading the league in both passing yards (577) and accuracy (67.7%). But he won’t be able to pass to starting TE Brian Roche. He suffered a season ending torn right Achilles tendon. He has already been put on the injured list. Demons WR Brian Roberson could come back after missing one game.
The Maniax allowed just 62 yards passing. Mostly due to the injury of Ryan Clements, who is expected to miss two to three games.
Maniax RB Salaam Rashaan rushed 82 yards against the Outlaws defense. But he did fumble the ball which was return for an Outlaws score. I expect the Demons to suffer to Rashaan’s running abilities, and unless he is stopped the Demons will face another hill to climb in the 4th quarter.
What the Demons need to do to win:
Score! Mike Pawlawski is consistent, but he can’t lead the Demons down the field for several scoring drives. They need to run the ball more. The 6 carries by Vaughn Dunbar and 8 carries by Juan Johnson won;t get them anywhere. The Demons has yet to score a rushing touchdown.
Stop the Penalties! The Demons committed 13 penalties for 103 yards against the Orlando Rage. And week one had 15 penalties for 121 yards. This is just plain pathetic. That is a total of 224 yard penalized in the last two games. The Demons has yet to even rush for that much yardages!
Stop the run! The Demons allowed 136 yards rushing. if they don’t, Salaam Rashaan will have a field day.
And to looking at the odds for the Demons for the 3rd time, they are still the underdog. Game one, they won. Game two, they lost. Game three, they …?
