DB Ranthony Texada proclaims he will seek NFL or XFL opportunities

#24 Ranthony Texada tracks down and sacks BattleHawks quarterback Jordan Ta’amu

Former New York Guardian Ranthony Texada, stepped away from his spot with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers so he could pursue opportunities with the NFL and hopefully, the XFL.

On Tuesday , Texada said in a tweet, “With the 2020 CFL season being cancelled this year, i have decided to take a leap of faith and opt out of my contract to pursue NFL/XFL opportunities. My body of work speaks for itself , and I believe i have what it takes to compete with the best!

Texada’s announcement is noteworthy, as he is the first departing CFL player to mention the XFL as a possible opportunity,

After graduating from Texas Christian University, Texada joined Washington as an undrafted free agent. After spending training camp and preseason with Washington, he lost his spot when the roster was reduced to 53 players.

After a short stint with the Ottawa Redblacks of the CFL, Texada was drafted by the New York Guardians. Originally lower on the depth chart, by week 5 of the XFL season, Texada had worked his way up into the starting squad.
